ROTARY MOMENT: ROTARY'S PRESIDENT NOMINATED FOR 2017-2018

Past President Dave Andrews announced that Ian H.S. Riseley, of the Rotary Club of Sandringham, Victoria, Australia, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International in 2017-18.

He will become the president-nominee on October 1, 2015 if no other candidates challenge him. Riseley says that meaningful partnerships with corporations and other organizations are crucial to Rotary’s future.We have the programs and personnel and others have available resources,” says Riseley.

Doing good in the world is everyone’s goal. We must learn from the experience of the polio eradication program to maximize our public awareness exposure for future partnerships.”

Riseley is a practicing accountant and principal of Ian Riseley and Co., which specializes in advising local and international businesses, and has a strong interest in international affairs.

Governments see Rotary as positive representatives of a civil society,” he says. “We should work with them to advocate for peace and conflict resolution, just as we are advocating for polio eradication.”

A member since 1978, Riseley has served Rotary as treasurer, director, trustee, RI Board Executive Committee member, task force member, committee member and chair, and district governor.

He is also a former member of the Australian Polio Eradication Private Sector Campaign and a recipient of The Rotary Foundation’s Service Award for a Polio-Free World.

He and his wife, Juliet, are Multiple Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, and Bequest Society members.

GUEST SPEAKER : CLUB FORUM – ON CHANGE IN START TIME OF CLUB MEETINGS

Past President Dave Andrews led the duscussion among members. The pros and cons were discussed. After some deliberation, it was decided by the members present and some of those in absentia that the start time of the club meetings would remaing at 6:30 pm and finish at 8 pm.

The problem remained that the club needs additional members. It was also decided that on November 17, there would be another CLUB FORUM to discuss ways and means to attract new members to the Club. All members are asked to bring with them, as many suggestions as possible. We need a plan and we need the plan to be agreed upon by he members and implemented as soon as possible. Your input will be most appreciated.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude and passion we all have, as Rotarians.
