GUEST SPEAKER :
Name of Speaker: Past President Ted Morrison
Introducer:President Mike McLaren
Thanked By: President Mike McLaren
Ted’s Remarks:
The Rotary Foundation provides funds and grant monies to Rotary projects throughout the world. Through your (our) individual donations however big or small, meaningful projects are shared and can be accomplished. It is amazing to understand that only 20% of Roatarians give to the Foundation. Imagine how much more good in the world could be done by Rotary if that level of participation were to break 50% or approach 100%?
When you were inducted into Rotary, an account has been established in your name. This account tracks your Givings. As these Givings are added to the account grows. When the account reaches $1,000.00 US you Receive a Paul Harris Fellow. For every $1,000.00 more you receive a Paul Harris plus 1, 2, etc.up to 8. Looking around at the lapel’s of some of your fellow Rotariarns you will see the Paul Harris pin which is provided in recognition of your Givings.
Once, you reach a threshold of $10,000.00 you become a Major Donor.
You can also give bequest through your estate planning. Another estate planning program established by Rotary is the Benefactor Program has been established whereby you agree to contribute $1,000.00. You will see those Benefactors with small wings which is added to your Rotary Pin.
In our club's 38 years, Rotarians have donated $223, 351 US to the Rotary Foundation. Of our 29 Club members, we have 15 Paul Harris Fellows, 10 Benefactors, and One Major Donor (and soon to be two). This is a great accomplishment .
The Rotary Foundation is our (your) Foundation so do give as generously as you are able.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The “ideal of service” is the key.
It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next.
It is an attitude and passion we all have, as Rotarians.
