Marsha Chambers – Happy $5 – Undergoing renovations at home. She was taking the poor cat to the vet and it passed away before the shot. Past President Bob Koski – Happy that the LiveAct fundraiser was a success and thanked the members for their support in ticket sales and selling raffle or 50/50 tickets, and seating guests at the function.

Past President Kris Sachdeva – Had a great time at the LiveAct event. He brought some friends that he had not seen in a long time as guests.

Past President Robbie Larocque – Went to his son’s graduation – he is now a full air cadet!

Past President Devon Biddle – Happy that the LiveAct was a success and most happy that his friends won several of the draw prizes and the 50/50, so should consider charging more next year for the sets near him!

CLUB FORUM:

Annual General meeting of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-parkwood Charitable Foundation was chaired by Devon Biddle

Club Forum on Membership/Sustaining the Club Finances:

The following discussion began during Past President Devon Biddle’s review of the financial reports. Members put forward a number of suggestions relating to finances and membership.

Past President Kris Sachdeva – feels we should lower annual fees to $150.00 to attract members.

Past President Lennis Trotter – feels we should raise the dinner fee to $25 which would include the Ace of Spades draw. This would make it easier on the members at the door, and adds $1 per person attending.

Several members feel that we should drop members from the list if they have not paid dues so that we have a true idea of what the membership is.

Suggestion was made to have guests and guest speakers pay for their meals, with some exceptions such as District Governor.

Other suggestions were made regarding fundraising, having a day at the races, having more events with spouses.

Linda Porritt suggested we should put together a membership package for Prospective new members.

Suggestions to start planning celebrations for the 40th Anniversary year of the club.

Past President Bob Koski – submitted the following.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION:

Plan a ‘2016 Reunion’ of all former Parkwood Rotarians & spouses & friends to celebrate our club’s 40th Anniversary.

Resurrect and host a joint Durham Region Rotary Clubs Annual Meeting (could be held at OGC) to assist in local club communications and to act as a fundraiser for R.I. Foundation Polio Plus Campaign. Need a top notch motivational speaker to act as a catalyst for the attendees and as an attraction for all clubs.

Plan a Valentine’s Party (Feb. 14) and a St. Patrick’s Day Party (March 17) for our club.

Attend the 2016 Queen’s Plate at Woodbine via a rented bus. Attend buffet lunch (noon – 3pm) in reserved seating area.

Inducting new members.

We should include frames for the two documents (the Four Way Test and the Objects of Rotary) we provide them. It would be a better introduction to our club. Kim Boatman suggested that there may be a potential sponsor in our business community (Staples, Michaels, etc.) that would welcome the opportunity to donate the frames to our club.

During low attendance months (Jan-Feb-Mar & July-August) consider reducing the weekly meetings to two per month. For example, only meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month.

Do not pay for dinners for all guest speakers. Save about $1,000 / year. Almost all speakers are looking for some support, financial or otherwise from our club and most speakers can afford to pay for their dinner. We would no longer pay for political speakers and for anyone on the public service sunshine list. Many of them seeking our support have a ‘budget for travel, speaking engagements and meal costs' .

We would continue to absorb the meal costs associated with: the first visit to our club by potential new members; the annual visit from the District Governor and spouse and Assistant District Governor; Rotoract students; and speakers that we have invited to address our club.

A Continuance of the Club Forum has been requested for January 5th, 2016.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key.

It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next.

It is an attitude and passion we all have, as Rotarians.
