HAPPY TOONIES

Past President Ted Morrison – Did a Windows 10 Upgrade and is not getting any e-mails now – so not really happy.

Past President Alan Nason – Is delighted but he’s not sure why.

Past President Devon Biddle – Happy about tonight’s attendance. Very good.

Past President Dave Mankiewicz – Bought flowers for his wife. That made them both happy.

Visiting Rotarian Guy Viggers – Finally finished a Partners In Service project that was started long ago. Everyone can relate.

Past President Robbie Larocque – Happy to have Past President Dave Andrews on the Reverse Draw Committee.

Past President Dave Andrews – Welcome, Guy. Looking forward to the talk tonight on the Partners in Service.

Janice Coupland – Happy $6 – Fortunate to live in Canada. Will be a volunteer at the Reverse Draw and is looking forward to it. Attended the Rotary Club of Oshawa Lunch yesterday with Marianna.

Past President Lennis Trotter – Attended the Lions’ District Meeting to raise the profile of Kids’ Safety Village. Found it very interesting – Lions International , like Rotary International, have a seat at the UN, and the Lions also have a Linos Day at The White House and a Lions Day at the United Nations .

Kim Boatman – Happy but has no money.

President Mike McLaren – His wife has taken up knitting. She knit the scarf he is wearing – it was lovely.

Peter Dueck – Happy he won the Ace of Spades draw.

Robert Kipling – Regarding the cakes and hams sale, he just heard of a study that says the least desired Christmas gift is a fruit cake. (Those present pointed out that it is much better doused in rum!) Went two weeks to Rio de Janeiro and happy that he did not get robbed. He did however get ill.

Past President Bob Koski – Happy that Grey Cup is this coming weekend, being held in Winnipeg, his home town.

ROTARY MOMENT: Next - TBA

GUEST SPEAKER :

Name of Speaker: Guy Viggers

Introducer: Marsha Chambers

Thanked By: Past President Lennis Trotter

Guy’s Remarks:

Guy joined Rotary in 1988. Shortly thereafter he began working on Partners in Service with Ron Murdock. He had a strategic goal to find one person in each club who would support the concept.

Partners in Service has distributed over $1.5 million since 2001 to help improve the quality of life of many people in the community.

In September 2015 he took over the Partners in Service program from Ron. The supports are provided to those in rehab, seniors, long term care patients. Providing home care, respite care. Adult day care for Alzheimer patients who can’t afford to pay. (Durham Region covers part of the cost and Partners in Service picks up the rest.)

Guy has created an application, trying to put some order to the process, by making sure that the applicant has tried to get funding from all other possible sources.

The list of miracles that have happened is long – hearing for those who cannot hear (for example a grandmother hearing her grandkids for the first time). The number of project is increasing every day, largely due to the delisting of services. Guy has started an Information List, of specialists who can help provide information when needed.

Guy thanked the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood for their support when asked.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key.

It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next.

It is an attitude and passion we all have, as Rotarians.

IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Past President and this year's Secretary Bob Koski has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet.
