ROTARY MOMENT: Next - November 10th.

GUEST SPEAKER :

Name of Speaker: John Stoddart

Introducer: Linda Porritt

Thanked By: Bob Stewart

John’s Remarks:

John read the short story that won him the Stephen Leacock Literary Lapses Award for Humour.

He also read two excerpts that appear in one of his three published books.

John has a very self-deprecating sense of humour, and a dry presentation. His stories gave the members present an opportunity to enjoy the lighter side of things.

He ended on a serious note, relating a story about a girl named Rose who he knew as a young boy. She had polio and wore leg braces. He regrets that he was not able to see beyond this girl’s disability. He expressed respect and appreciation for what Rotary does regarding the elimination of polio in the world..

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key.

It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next.

It is an attitude and passion we all have, as Rotarians.

IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Past President and this year's Secretary Bob Koski has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet.
