  1. Robert Kipling had an unhappy toonie. He took 4 photos with his new Galaxy cell phone, went to show someone the 4 photos and on his camera were 467 photos of someone's trip to Europe. Startling. Anyone have any idea how this could happen?

  3. Past President Alan Nason is very happy again this week, but sometimes forgets why.

  4. Past Presdient Devon Biddle put in 20 shillings (he will make up the difference when he gets home since he is the Treasurer). He is very happy to be at the dinner table tonight with so many exhilarating Rotarians.

  5. Past District Governor Ted Morrison is very happy , but can't remember why. It escaped him for a moment. Then he told us that he and Sharron and the Biddles are off to the Rotary Foundation Million Dollar Dinner next Tuesday hosted by District Rotary Foundation Chair Bill Patchett and then he and Sharron will be off to the Zone Institute in Providence, RI, and will be getting prepared for his seat at the Rotary Council on Legislation which will occur next April.

  6. Bob Stewart was almost happy.

  7. Past Presdient Dave Andrews will be happy when President Mike McLaren returns from Calgary.

  8. Janice Coupland is also extremely happy tonight.

And it would be up to all of the club members to keep donating happy toonies on a weekly basis to help defray our weekly expenses.

Please let them know the date well in advance.

  6. During the discussion of the meals costs, many members expressed their concern about the experiment to change the start of our club meetings from 6:30 pm to 5:30 pm in order to encourage younger potential members to join our club. As a result, Past President Dave Andrews asked the members if they wanted a Club Forum to discuss this change. The members agreed that since there was no speaker planned for Sept 15, that we have a Club Forum, with the sole item on the agenda being the change in start time of our weekly meetings. Please be prepared to share your thoughts and preferences.

ROTARY MOMENT: ROTARY DAY AT THE UNITED NATIONS

Past Distict Governor Ted Morrison talked about the history of Rotary and the United Nations and the November 7, 2015 Rotary Day at The United Nations in New York.

On April 19, 1945, a few months before the end of World War II, the leaders of the world met in San Francisco to develop an organization that would ensure Peace in the world. Rotary was invited to attend. Rotary already had the reputation in the world from 1905 through 1945 of promoting Peace in the world , without force. Rotarians took an very active role at the conference. Of the 800 delegates to the conference, 49 were Rotarians, and in addition, many of the world leaders were already Rotarians , back in their countries. Rotary has a seat at the United Natioe , was developed from the ways and means that Rotarians conduct their humanitarian service to the world. In 1985, the Philippines government came to Rotary and asked them to help with the spread of Polio in the Philippines. In one year, polio was eradicated from the Philippines. The UN took notice, and in that same year, the UN agencies (WHO and UNICEF) partnered with Rotary to begin PolioPlus. The rest is history.

Nov 7 2015 – Rotary Day at the UN: The cost for the day at the UN is $60. http://riunday.org/ is the website with all of the details. Be sure to read the September 2015 edition of the District 7070 Newsletter on the http://rotary7070.org website and the letter from Past Districvt Governor Doug Vincemt on the boat cruise and on the Nov 6 tour of the Canadian Embassy.

Rotary's partnership with the United Nations from Day One - a proud reason to be a Rotarian.

GUEST SPEAKER : Lorna Weston Smyth http://lornawestonsmyth.com/about/

Past President Dave Andrews introduced Lorna Weston-Smyth, a Leadership coach with the John Maxwell Team. Lorna talked about ways to get the “best” out of our lives., how to make life meaningful, and how to create a planplan on how to live life. She invited us to attend the one day Live2Lead event at Deer Creek on November 4, 2015. Be sure to go to http://l2l.johnmaxwell.com/ and also pick up John's new book called Intentional Living avaialbe very soon from Amazon and in the books stores soon. John C. Maxwell, #1 New York Times best selling author, shows readers how to achieve a life of purpose and significance through intentional living. Deep down, what does every person want most? To live a life that matters. We all want to feel like the time we spent on earth made a difference. How do we achieve that? John Maxwell believes the answer is intentional living. John says, "When you intentionally use your influence every day to bring about positive change in the lives of others, you achieve significance." There is a big difference between a life of good intentions and an intentional life. Almost everyone has good intentions. An intentional life, however, has thought and purpose to it. And the best thing about intentional living? It's within everyone's reach. This latest book by John Maxwell shows you how.And he will be at Deer Creek on November 4.

Here are some things Lorna said from John Maxwell:

We don’t see things as they are, but as we are.

If I trust myself, I will trust you because we attract what we are looking for.

Intentional people fill their own calendar. They don’t allow others to fill their calendar.

Focus on the three R’s. What is required? What offers the best return? People migrate toward things that reward.

There are two great days in a person’s life. The day they are born and the day they discover why. We’ll never be truly happy until we have at least one purpose in life that absolutely drives us.

Selfishness and significance are incompatible. If we want to achieve significance, we must first help others.

Growth is not an automatic process. You don’t automatically get better.

It’s not for me to accept my life. It’s for me to take charge of my life.

In order to matter we need to be intentional and that’s the difference between wanting to make a difference and actually making a difference.

High morale is looking at each other and saying we are making a difference. Low morale is realizing you are not.”

Even Lorna noticed how smilar Rotarians are to those who know how to be significant and have a real impact on their mlives and the lives of others.

For more details on Live2Lead at Deer Creek on Nov 4, check out the Facebook page: Live 2Lead DurhamEastToronto. John Maxwell, the World's #1 Leadership Authority has been asked by the Presidents of no fewer than 22 countries around the world to come to those countries and help them bring Intentional Transformational Leadership to their people. Get your tickets today to hear him speak on Nov 4 at Deer Creek in Ajax. http://l2ldurhameasttoronto.com/

Lorna was thanked by Past President Lennis Trotter.

NEXT WEEK:

CLUB FORUM: THE PROS AND CONS OF CHANGE IN OUR CLUB'S MEETING TIME.

.

Meeting Ajourned.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key.  It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next.

It is an attitude and passion we all have, as Rotarians.
