ROTARY MOMENT

Larry Hurren shared his personal story about “Why I Joined Rotary”.  He spoke of Rotary as one of the “consistencies” in his life, along with marriage, family and career.  He was invited by Lennis, and has never been disappointed, especially with the fun and fellowship.  Larry mentioned some events & projects that were highlights for him: getting new members, doing fundraisers, scholarships, student exchanges and our polio projects.

GUEST SPEAKER  :

Our speakers, Steven Rutledge and Mike Yap (R.C. of Whitby Sunrise) were introduced by Hilda.

 Their presentation, Adopt A Village In Laos , was a very informative video about the bombing of Laos during the Viet Nam War and the subsequent dire needs of the population.  The charity that Steve & Mike  have organized provides: schools, access to clean water (water filters), hygiene education and personal products like toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Our club is being asked to make a donation to this charity.

Thanked by: President Al

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude we all have, as Rotarians.

IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP: Pat Dyck, our Club Secretary has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet. Please mail or fax your make-ups to Pat Dyck, or give your make-up card to the attendance/registration officer at the next club meeting.
