GUEST SPEAKER  :

There was no speaker tonight.  Bur what a great social night it was. After the warm welcome and a few drinks, we sat down to a fine Italian meal of lasagna and Caesar Salad , followed by ice cream and strawberries. And then the Rotarians and their spouses announced their very own special Italian phrase that they brought with them tonight.

Here is just a small sample:

Dave Snowden (in absentia) asked everybody, in Italian “where is my cow?” ;

President Jodi’s phrase was “we are having a great time”;

Incoming Vice President Robbie Larocque’s phrase was “garlic is good”;

Terri Lynn Larocque said “Red wine is my favorite”;

Past President Bob Koski had two great Italian phrases “arivaderci” and “Gina Lola Brigida”;

Mike McLaren proclaimed “show me the money”;

Past President Alan Nason  told everyone that  “ my hovercraft is full of eels”;

Past President Dave Andrews gave us one he heard from construction workers on his street when he was about 6 years old “you are crazy”; Eamon Doyle announced “Viva Bertaloni”;

Carol reading asked “where is the bathroom?”;

Sandy Malachowski said “bonjourno” and

Reg Malachowski talked about “good friends, good times, let’s drink the wine”;

Sue Skinner, our only authentic Italian told us to “eat, drink, and be merry”;

Past President Walt Stewart said “good evening everybody”; and

Past President Alan Nason shared another gem when he announced , in Italian,  that his “donkey was dead”.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude we all have, as Rotarians.
