He became President in 1998 and District Governor in 2007. Once he understood what Rotary Foundation was and meant, then he truly new the real meaning of Rotary.
Ted used his Rotary Moment as his introduction of Bill Patchet.
GUEST SPEAKER : Bill Patchet, Past District Governor.
Bill spoke to us about Polio and the drastic effects of this disease. He touched on the development of the iron lung and the positive contributions polio survivors made to society. He Talked about Salk Vaccine and how quickly the developed nations eradicated polio. In 1985 Rotary International was asked by the World Health Organization to take the lead in ridding the entire world of Polio.
He noted that Bill and Melinda Gates are donating one dollar for every dollar Rotary raises to end Polio.
He offered our club a way to raise funds for Polio. He sold us 200 “dripless” Paint brush holders for $200, and we can sell them for 2 for $5 and use the profits to support this campaign.
Thanked By Ted Morrison, who declared that Bill is a generous and true Rotarian.
President Alan adjourned the meeting.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude we all have, as Rotarians.
IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Pat Dyck, our Club Secretary has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet. Please mail or fax your make-ups to Pat Dyck, or give your make-up card to the attendance/registration officer at the next club meeting.
