business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behavior that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

 

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

  1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities

  2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

  3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

  4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

  5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

  6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

  7. Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

  8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES Happy Birthday : Today June 20th Robbie Larocque; June 21st Caroline Kipling

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Ted Morrison was very pleased with the conference in Atlanta - proud to be Canadian - especially for our role in the fight against Polio, which was highlighted by the Minister of International Development in his comments; Ted presented Pres. Dave with a "blinker" which will promote the 2018 Conference in Toronto, to date 13,000 have preregistered for this conference;

  • Ted also commented on being invited to the Arch Klumph Lounge only to find NO Food available!!

  • Ted noted that in the recent edition of Rotary Canada, there is a picture and quotes from Linda and Devon Biddle;

  • on a sad note Bill Patchett has been admitted to hospital during a recent visit to his daughter in PEI.

  • Kim Boatman asked for members to consider volunteering for Community Services and/or Youth Services Committees.

  • Pres. Dave announced upcoming dates to remember:

    • the Safety Village Committee and Board meeting on Monday June 26th ,

    • President's Night June 27th - thanks to Linda and Devon Biddle for hosting the after dinner gathering;

    • annual BBQ Saturday August 19th - 2pm - at the Biddle Cottage;

    • Foundation Walk - Sunday September 10th in Whitby; Membership Matters Seminar - September 23rd; District 7070 Conference November 3/4 in Niagara on the Lake;

Hilda innigan thanked members who volunteered for front desk and/or bulletin editor for the summer months (she will email the roster to all who volunteered)

  • Linda Porritt reported that the World Service Committee will support the Guatemala Literacy Project ( http://www.guatemalaliteracy.org/ ; and for CAFE (Canadian Aid For Education http://www.canadianaidforeducation.ca/ )

  • Hilda Finnigan asked members present to sign up for Front Desk and Bulletin Editor for the summer months - THANKS to all who did so - only two dates left to fill;

HAPPY BUCKS:

  • many members noted how they spent "Father's Day"

    • Kris with kids and grandkids, gave his son a box of "saved!" items;

    • Bob Koski special day with daughters and grand daughters;

  • Janice Coupland happy that her son was involved in the renovation at the Oshawa Public Library;

  • Robert Kipling speaking ++spanish with a visitor from Peru, having trouble converting back to English!

GUEST SPEAKER:
Robert Kipling introduced Joseph Sansalone, Manager of Adult Services with the Oshawa Public Library.

Joseph chose to speak to us about the digital services available at the Library. Examples of these include emovies, ebooks and magazines, emusic, elanguages, through instantflix, hoopla, flipster, cloud library and many more. A library card is required to access these services. You may obtain a card by applying on line using the library website or in person at any branch (there are four). There are many resources, services and programs available to the people of Oshawa through the Library.

Sonya Thompson thanked Joseph for this update on library services.
