ANNOUNCEMENTS:

• Pres. Dave is still looking for guest speakers, just a few dates are available up to June. But keep going and getting speakers after June 30 .

• REMINDER: If you cannot make next weeks meeting, please Pres Dave me know by Sunday evening . We are already short a number of meals so far this calendar year. This “advance notice” procedure really does keep the cost all of our dues down when we all work together. Thank you.

  • Feb 13^th – Harpo’s for Valentine’s event – no meeting at the Golf Club on Feb, 14th. Be sure to sign up with Janice Coupland.

  • Mar 14^th St. Patrick’s Day at Fionn McCool’s. Be sure to sign up with Janice Coupland.

  • May 10^th Reverse Draw, Dinner & Silent Aution Night – looking for a lot of silent auction donations . Goal is to get 100 items this year – tickets being printed – sample letter asking for tickets to be purchased, sponsors , and silent auction items was e-mailed out to members today

• Lennis – a workshop on Fundraising with Gina Eisler, professional fundraiser, will be held at the Oshawa Golf Club on Wed. Feb 15^th – coffee/tea and desserts – jointly with Kids’ Safety Village, Ajax Optimists and Whitby Lions. Open to all members of the Rotary Club. Please sign up in advance with Treasurer Devon Biddle to secure a spot.

• Lennis – is circulating some catalogues to look at clothing that can be branded – everyone should take a look and give their opinions

HAPPY BUCKS

• Lennis Trotter is Happy – he went to Dancing with the Stars with Esther, he enjoyed the Oshawa Generals hockey game, and he’s glad that his suggestion from some time ago to collect the Ace of Spades draw money at the registration desk is finally going to be implemented

• Ted Morrison had some sad bucks – granddaughter Mackenzie (17) was home alone when a man from an energy reselling company knocked on the door and then walked in. A very scary time for the family. So far the intruder is not being charged, but has threatened to charge Mackenzie’s dad with assault.

• Devon Biddle – took the money to the bank from the Generals game and met there a women from his high school days that he had not seen since. She had aged!

• Larry Hurren had a quote from William Golding (1911–1993) “Women are foolish to pretend they are equal to men, they are far superior and always have been.” Yes – he is the author of Lord of the Flies

• Mike McLaren – Had a great couple of weeks – great golf – it’s good to be back.

• Peter Dueck – gave a happy toonie for Donald Trump – he defied the establishment

• Dave Andrews – Went to the Larry’s dental office today a week early for his appointment and they took him anyway. Great service!

A Pictorial Look Back at 40 Years of The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood

Thanks to Bob Elliott and his granddaughter Sydney, for putting together a lovely slideshow of the photos and momentos of Rotary ove rthe last 40 years. The slideshow was prepared and displayed at the 40^th Anniversary Ruby Affair. So that everyone had the opportunity, Bob brought the slideshow and played it for the members.

Pres. Dave thanked Bob for his hard work on the slideshow. He wrapped up by reminding the members of the large contribution this club has made to the community over 40 years – it’s what Rotary’s all about “Making a Difference” - the theme of incoming RI President Ian Riseley.

Pres. Dave Adjourned the meeting.

 

The “ideal of service” is the key.
