OFFICIAL BULLETIN OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF OSHAWA-PARKWOOD

Mailing Address: 96 KING ST. E., OSHAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA L1H 1B6

What is Rotary ?

We're made up of local business, professional, and civic leaders.

We meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and through that, we're able to get things done in our community.

It's up to YOU.............Join leaders in our community

Be sure to share this with all of your friends and associates and ask them to get in touch with our Membership Chair Linda Porritt at 905-626-6386 or our Membership Director Lennis Trotter at 905-985-0963 or our Club President Mike McLaren at 905-571-4222.

You are invited to our next Rotary meeting. You may wish to become a Rotarian. Dinner is on us. Isn't it time to give back to your community?.

2016-2017 ROTARY THEME: “ROTARY – SERVING HUMANITY”

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT: John Germ – Rotary Club of Chttanooga, Tennessee,USA

R.I. DISTRICT 7070 GOVERNOR: Jim Louttit - Rotary Club of Toronto-Sunrise in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

ASSISTANT DISTRICT 7070 GOVERNOR: Beth Selby – Rotary Club of Belleville in Belleville, Ontario, Canada

ROTARY – People of Action

Rotary is where neighbors, friends, and problem-solvers share ideas,

join leaders, and take action to create lasting change.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behavior that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

  1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities

  2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

  3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

  4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

  5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

  6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

  7. Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

  8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

  9.

THE ROTARY FOUR-WAY TEST

of things we think, say and do:

  1. Is it the truth

  2. Is it fair to all concerned?

  3. Will it build good will and better friendships?

  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

ROTARY MOMENT:

None tonight

May 23 - page 3

GUEST SPEAKER - Our guest speaker Dan Cardoza Oshawa Mary Street YMCA had to cancel tonight – his father had heart surgery last week there are complications we send our thoughts and best wishes out to Dan and his family we hope everything turns around for you Dad

ROTARIAN GUEST SPEAKER tonightTed Morrison our incoming President – discussion about the Visioning Exercise Next Week

Changing Leadership every year can be a plus or it can be a minus

As incoming President I want us all to participate in the Visioning Exercise – it is important to our Club – I don’t want to tell you what we are going to do I want to know from you what your thoughts are. This will benefit myself, Linda (incoming President and whoever takes over the following year)

The purpose of the Visioning Exercise is to come up with a strategic plan – Rotary International wants every club to have a strategic plan

We want to make sure that we do what you want to do

  1. WHERE ARE WE NOW – what we want to do and what we have done how can we improve

  2. WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE – for example in 2017, 2018, 2019

We will come up with the STRATEGIC PLAN by voting on what you consider is important and we will focus and develop this plan together. After the voting occurs if you have given your opinion on a certain subject if it is not confirmed to be part of our Strategic Plan that doesn’t mean it isn’t important or cannot be spearheaded by you as an individual during the year

There are several steps of a Strategic Plan and together we will design it…….some examples of subjects of our Plan could be FOUNDATION, COMMUNITY SERVICE, MEMBERSHIP, FUND RAISING and more

The Visioning Exercise was developed by ROTARIANS from the Midwest

We will have three indivduals coming out next week to host this exercise:

Darryl Patterson – Rotary Club of East York

Beth Selby – Rotary Club of Cobourg

Tonya Baldwin – Rotary Club of Quinte-Sunrise

WHAT IS A VISION?

  • An inspirational rendering of a future state

  • An Articulation of how we want to be

  • A shared view to guide our actions

  • A foundation upon which to build our long term and short term goals

WHY DO WE NEED A VISION?

Visioning facilitation helps a Rotary Club design it’s owne vision and then sets out the steps necessary to achieve that vision. The result is NOT a vision set out by the Rotary District or Rotary International but instead is a vision designed and endorsed by the club’s own members. This vision will help to ensure consensus, continuity and consistency in your club leadership and programming, TO SET THE STAGE FOR FUTURE PROGRESS.
