FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behavior that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

 

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

  1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities

  2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

  3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

  4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

  5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

  6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

  7. Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

  8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

  9.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Lennis Trotter - Safety Village Board and Committee meeting Monday June 126th at 7PM;

  • Pres. Dave thanked club members for their participation in our recent Visioning Exercise stating that incoming President Ted would be asking members to serve on a Strategic Planning Committee to follow up and propose actions on the recommendations;

  • Pres. Dave also encouraged members to take advantage of a special registration rate for the 2018 International Conference in Toronto - June 10 - 14;

  • Tim Dwyre asked that we consider the following Social Events on these suggested dates - Toronto Harbour Cruise/Dinner on July 15th; Baseball Game on August 12th - more info to follow; our annual Picnic will be August 19th hosted by Linda and Devon Biddle; September events may be Woodbine for the Races and Lawn Bowling for one of our Tuesday meetings; more info to follow

INDUCTION OF 2 NEW ROTARY CLUB MEMBERS:

President Elect Ted Morrison announced the induction of two new members into the Rotary Club of Oshawa Parkwood. Pres. Dave Andrews further introduced Sonya Thompson and Jamie Gorycki. Pins, Name tags and Rotary information were presented by Past Pres. Lennis Trotter and DG Nominee Designate Beth Selby. Oshawa Parkwood members present gave a warm welcome to Sonya and Jamie.

ACE OF SPADES DRAW:

Sharron Morrison drew the King of Clubs an was very pleased to receive the travel toothpaste - it will be handy for travelling to Atlanta!!

Happy Bucks:

  • Larry looking forward to warm weather at the cottage in spite of ++black flies/mosquitoes!

  • Tim pleased to attend the 70th wedding Anniversary of this Aunt and Uncle and to be able to bring his 95 yr old Mother along;

  • Trotters, Morrisons and Biddles looking forward to Atlanta Conference;

  • Janice attended the Ajax Ribfest this past weekend with Kris Sachdeva and Sonya Thompson - disappointed that offer of volunteer help was not needed;

  • Linda Biddle happy she has her new car, FINNALLY!!, happy to be with us this evening;

  • Devon happy to have his old car back;

  • Caroline Kipling happy she is going to see Neil Diamond;

  • Sonya happy she is now a member, appreciative of the warm welcome, following the path of her Mother who was a Rotarian in Belleville;

  • Hilda appreciating the newly renovated lower level of the Golf Club;

  • Al Finnigan happy to be with Rotarian friends this evening;

  • Stan happy to have ++ family visiting to attend his eldest daughter's graduation even though he is sleeping on the floor!! Ted looking forward to Atlanta, good weather and reconnecting with Rotary friends from around the world, thankful for a productive first Board meeting;

  • Sharron Morrison appreciating the fellowship, the travel toothpaste and her fixed teeth;

GUEST SPEAKER:
Past DG/Pres. Elect Ted Morrison introduced DG Nominee Designate Beth Selby of the Rotary Club of Cobourg. Beth will be District Governor in the 2019/20 Rotary Year. Beth gave a brief overview of the importance of the International Rotary Foundation in the Rotary World. The Foundation provides financial assistance, which allows Rotary Clubs to change lives at home and around the world.

Beth then assisted Ted, as we celebrated our annual Paul Harris Award night, presenting the following Awards to members of the Rotary Club of Oshawa Parkwood.

Paul Harris Recipients:

Community Recipient Terry Johnston CKDO Radio recognized for his ongoing contributions in the community, particularily in connection with the Safety Village. (Terry was unable to attend this evening but will receive his award at our meeting on July 11th)

Rotarian Recipients - Linda Porritt, Robert Stewart and Michael McLaren received Paul Harris Awards; Pat Dyck rec'd Paul Harris +1, Hilda Finnigan, Paul Harris +2

Arch Klumph Recipients - members of the Rotary Club of Oshawa Parkwood are pleased and proud to recognize Devon and Linda Biddle as members of the Arch Klumph Society (AKS). Their donation of $250.000.00 to Rotary International Foundation shows strong commitment to the vision of Rotary, improving lives world wide. Devon noted that in their many travels he and Linda have seen first hand how some people strive to live and need assistance in meeting simple life necessities such as clean water and sanitation.
