Our first annual Christmas tree sale event was a great success because of your kindness and commitment to service above self. Thank you to the Rotarians and the friends of Rotary who made a donation and purchased a tree for a family in need. You made their Christmas very special this year. Merry Christmas to you and your family! The Rotary Clubs of Oshawa and Oshawa-Parkwood have joined forces for another joint project during the holiday season. The project is back on as members from both Rotary Clubs in Oshawa will be selling Christmas Trees, outside, near the old Sears store, at the Oshawa Centre, from December 2 to 24 or until the trees are sold out, it was announced today by Emmy Iheme, Past President of the Rotary Club of Oshawa and Chair of the 2020 Oshawa Rotary Christmas Tree Sale. “We thank everyone at the Oshawa Centre for the opportunity to sell our trees even though the Holiday Haven outdoor Oshawa Centre event was cancelled. They are helping us help the community at this time of year”, Rotary Past President Iheme said. Proceeds from the Oshawa Rotary Christmas Tree Sale will be used to support the many community service projects of The Rotary Clubs which help those who need it the most, especially at this time of year and right in the midst of the pandemic. Thanks to the community spirit of Oshawa Centre management, the members of the two Rotary Club will not be hard to find. They will be outside, with all of the Christmas trees, in the northwest corner of the parking lot near the old Sears store at the Oshawa Centre, 419 King St West, in Oshawa from December 2 through 24, Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm. “The trees, Balsam and Fraser firs, from Prestonvale Tree Farm, and are the best quality and the best prices. We are asking everyone not to leave it too late to buy. Since this is our first year selling trees, our supply is limited and we may run out”, he added. “We are also asking for cash donations and donations of unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items which we will help the less fortunate, during this holiday season”, announced Oshawa-Parkwood Rotary President Sue MacKinnon. The Rotary Clubs are looking for students and community volunteers to help them with their tree sales. If anyone is interested, they may contact Past President Emmy Iheme at eci878@hotmail.com or Oshawa-Parkwood Rotary President Sue MacKinnon at susandianenash@gmail.com . “During the Covid-19 pandemic, our local community programs are being utilized much more than ever before. And they are faced with a drop in funds due to the impact of the virus on many of their regular donors. Our two Rotary Clubs in Oshawa are pleased to be able to step up, once again and help right now,” Oshawa-Parkwood Rotary President Sue MacKinnon added. Both Rotary Clubs agreed that COVID-19 has brought new challenges to the Rotary Clubs in Oshawa and all over the world. The both agreed that Rotary is responding. Humanitarian service remains their primary focus, no matter the circumstances. Rotarians really are #PeopleOfAction. |
