Oct. 12, 2020 11:00 a.m. - Nov. 15, 2020 4:00 p.m.
2020 ORDER DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 15, 2020 AT 4 PM
Once again this year, as has been the tradition for over 38 years, the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood is selling Heritage Holiday Cakes and Smoked Hams (again, this year from Brandt Meats) for Rotary projects, it was announced, today, by Ted Morrison, Past President of the Rotary Club and Chairman of the fundraising event. The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood supports many community services such as Lakeridge Health – Oshawa, the Colonel R. S McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Senior Citizens, challenged adults, the Kids Safety Village of Durham Region, Participation House, Grandview Children’s Centre, YMCA, Simcoe Hall Settlement House, Feed The Need Durham, the Back Street Mission, Mary Street School, Ontario Tech University and Durham College and many other services, here in the Durham Region and throughout the world, like the eradication of Polio, worldwide. “The Heritage Holiday Cake is a 2 pound 8 ounce fruit cake, and is packaged in a gold and red box. Reasonably priced at $25.00 each, it makes for a very affordable Christmas gift. The all-butter fruit cakes with brandy extract make a perfect end to a traditional festive dinner or make an elegant gift idea for your family, friends and corporate clients. Many people tend to think of fruit cakes as a treat to be served at Christmas only but we are pleased to say that they make great gifts all year round ,” Mr. Morrison said. “This year, we have available, 2 kg Smoked Black Forest Style Hams from Brandt Meats, delivered in a Brandt bag. They are lean hams, mildly cured, delicately smoked and cooked and can be enjoyed oven baked, sliced for sandwiches or cubed in a salad. The purchase price for 2 kg Brandt Black Forest Ham is a real bargain at $30.00”, he added. “At this time, we do not anticipate any problems with ham supply and will do our very best to get the hams to you, this year. But in the event that a COVID-19 incident occurs at our supplier, we will be unable to fill the ham orders. We hope everyone understands,” Mr. Morrison said. “We have seen a significant increased demand from the business community in Oshawa, over the last few years. We thank them very much. Many corporations and companies are changing their gift giving to those that the whole family can appreciate. Businesses and organizations want to treat their employees and their customers in a manner which better reflects their company’s values. And that is why the Holiday Cakes and Hams have become very popular Holiday gifts for your family, friends, neighbours, employees, coworkers, or even your favourite customers,” Mr. Morrison remarked. “In past years, we have seen businesses and companies in Oshawa and the surrounding area, switch their gift giving entirely to the Cakes and Hams for their employees and their valued customers. This year will be no exception,” he added. Orders may be placed with Rotarian Ted Morrison by calling 905-623-3810 before November 15. You may also email your order to him at ted.sharron@rogers.com OR Orders may be placed with Rotarian David Andrews by calling 905-576-0187 before November 15. You may also email your order to him at dave.f.andrews99@gmail.com The Cakes and Hams will be available sometime in the first week of December, just in time for the gift giving season.

Thank you to the Rotarians and the friends of Rotary who made a donation and purchased a tree for a family in need. You made their Christmas very special this year. Merry Christmas to you and your family! The Rotary Clubs of Oshawa and Oshawa-Parkwood have joined forces for another joint project during the holiday season. The project is back on as members from both Rotary Clubs in Oshawa will be selling Christmas Trees, outside, near the old Sears store, at the Oshawa Centre, from December 2 to 24 or until the trees are sold out, it was announced today by Emmy Iheme, Past President of the Rotary Club of Oshawa and Chair of the 2020 Oshawa Rotary Christmas Tree Sale. “We thank everyone at the Oshawa Centre for the opportunity to sell our trees even though the Holiday Haven outdoor Oshawa Centre event was cancelled. Proceeds from the Oshawa Rotary Christmas Tree Sale will be used to support the many community service projects of The Rotary Clubs which help those who need it the most, especially at this time of year and right in the midst of the pandemic. Thanks to the community spirit of Oshawa Centre management, the members of the two Rotary Club will not be hard to find. If anyone is interested, they may contact Past President Emmy Iheme at eci878@hotmail.com or Oshawa-Parkwood Rotary President Sue MacKinnon at susandianenash@gmail.com . “During the Covid-19 pandemic, our local community programs are being utilized much more than ever before. And they are faced with a drop in funds due to the impact of the virus on many of their regular donors. Our two Rotary Clubs in Oshawa are pleased to be able to step up, once again and help right now,” Oshawa-Parkwood Rotary President Sue MacKinnon added. Both Rotary Clubs agreed that COVID-19 has brought new challenges to the Rotary Clubs in Oshawa and all over the world. The both agreed that Rotary is responding. Humanitarian service remains their primary focus, no matter the circumstances. Rotarians really are #PeopleOfAction. |
