THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behaviour that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviours and activities

2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

7. Honour the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavour or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

                              Joint Meeting with Rotary Club of Oshawa

Meeting Called to Order at 12:15 PM: by Oshawa President Rhonda Kirkland-Gorham

Land Acknowledgement - delivered by Peter Hernandez

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

Oh Canada was sung (and accompanied on the piano by Rotarian Tom Hodgson) and a Toast was made to the King

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:  District Governor Iosif Ciosa; District Governor Elect John Burns; Assistant Governor Gord Wallace

Member Induction Ceremony:  PDG Ron Dick, Roxanne Meek and DG Iosif Ciosa  inducted two new members into the Oshawa club.      

SGT AT ARMS:             Randy and Roxanne collected Happy Bucks.. Each club kept their respective Happy Bucks. It was fun.

Donation Presentation: Chris from Brock Street Brewing presented a cheque for $2500 to the Oshawa Club.

GUEST SPEAKER:  IOSIF CIOSA – DISTRICT 7070 GOVERNOR

AG Gord Wallace introduced our guest speaker, DG Iosif Ciosa. Iosif joined Rotary in 2012. He became the 64th President of the Toronto Forest Hill Club, and also served as President of the Rotary Club of Etobicoke. He has a BA from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, and MAs in Diplomatic Studies and International Business from Universities in the United Kingdom.

Presentation:

DG Iosif congratulated our two clubs on the accomplishments in this Rotary year-to-date:

• 117,000 meals packed at the President Jennifer Jones event in July

• another 40,000 meals packed in November (Kids Against Hunger)

• Successful World Polio Day at the Rotary Global Classroom (Durham College) thanks to David Andrews and Peter Hernandez

• Kids Safety Village welcomed 10,000 members of the public for the Hallowe’en event and are currently halfway through the Festival of Lights event

• The two clubs arranged for a plaque of the Four-Way Test to be installed at the entrance to the City of Oshawa council chambers

• Night of 1,000 Dinners raised $4,000 for the Canadian Landmines Foundation (champion Gord Dowsley)

• Oshawa club held a successful RibFest in August

• Oshawa club provided financial support for the 151st Chadburn Air Cadets (Cadets aged 12-18)

• Oshawa held 2 garage sales

• Kim Tam of the Oshawa club raised $4,075 for PolioPlus

• Oshawa-Parkwood donated to the Whitby Sunrise club’s Laos Water Project

• Oshawa-Parkwood donated to the Rotary Club of Whitby’s Disaster Relief project to purchase a surgical table for the Ukraine

• Oshawa-Parkwood donation of $10,000 over 4 years to the Skilled Trades Centre (Durham College)

• Oshawa-Parkwood raised $30,000 towards the purchase of playground equipment for Waverly Public School

• Both clubs had strong participation in the Annual Foundation Walk

• Oshawa-Parkwood is donating to Lakeridge Health to purchase a DaVinci Surgical Robot

• Oshawa-Parkwood volunteers painted the north fence at Parkwood Historical Site

• PDG Ted Morrison and David Andrews are instrumental in the running of RLI

District Governor Iosif then reviewed the District Governance Structure.

There is a new District 7070 role in the District Rotary Foundation Committee- Disaster Response Director Michael Parker (Cobourg Rotary Cloub).

 Iosif reviewed the changes to Rotaract - they are now regular members of Rotary.

President Jennifer Jones, a Canadian and the first female President of Rotary has requested the creation of two cause based clubs in the District. Charters are coming for the First Canadian Tibetan Rotary Club and for two Rotaract clubs based out of Humber College (one at each campus).

DG Iosif then reviewed the District’s Strategic Plan:

1. Collectively, clubs need to examine and report on community impact.

2. Create Cause Based Clubs

3. Increase cross-club collaboration.

4. Create on online Dashboard for District Clubs

5. Raise $1.17 million for The Rotary Foundation

6. Create Diversity, Equality and Inclusion committees as each club

7. Clubs to add a “Join Us” button to their websites

Lastly, Isoif reminded us of the Rotary International convention  being held in 2023 in Melbourne, Australia

PDG Ron Dick thanked the District Governor for his presentation.

- Oshawa’s Foundation Chair, presented a Paul Harris +1 to Dave Mills. Encouraging members to join Rotary Direct. Drew 3 prizes for those who have signed up.

- Nov 29th - Reverse Draw Committee will meet at 7 pm at the DG Biddle offices.

- Dec. 3 Bingo at the Red Barn

- Dec 3rd is the annual Sharon’s Kids breakfast and collection of gift donations. The event is a drive through 8 am to 10 am. Enter the parking lot off of Orchard View.

- Dec. 10th is the new date for the Feed the Need Concert. Venue change to the Biltmore at 39 King St E in Oshawa. Cost $30/ticket.

- Dec 13th is the club Christmas party at Bella Notte in Whitby. 6pm    $52/person.
