GUEST SPEAKER :
Past President Dave Andrews told our members why we are doing re-classification talks.
The reintroduction of Classification Talks. At the request of Past President Lennis Trotter, it is time to get our “newer” members and chance to get to know our “older” members. And the best way to do this is for the “older” members to do a Reclassification Talk. In our Rotary Club, it really is an opportunity for the member speaking to tell our members about themselves, their family, their interests, in and out of Rotary, and a bit about their profession or business, they represent or represented at one time. Rotary is fun and fellowship and what better way to get to know our members so that we can all better serve in our local and global community.
Dave thanked Past President Lennis Trotter for being our FIRST presenter to Reclassification Talks..
PAST PRESIDENT LENNIS TROTTER:
Lennis told us his career story – it has been a very successful and interesting career he has made his mark on many projects throughout the Durham Region and the GTA. And he told us all about his career in Rotary - a charter member of our Rotary Club (since October 1976) with perfect attendance. He has made up his attendance and has attended many District Conferences and International Conventions and from his many Rotary travels, he has introduced to our Rotary Club the Kids' Safety Village and the Rotary Skate-a-thon - two very successful projects.
Lennis was thanked by janice Coupland.
And the good news MCs that we are going to continue with our Reclassification Talks througout the Rotary Year.
Past President David Mankiewicz has volunteered to do his craft talk in May and Past Presdient Bob Koski in February
Bob Koski – February
Who wants to do their craft talk in March?
Who wants to do their craft talk in April?
David Mankiewicz - May
Thank you to everyone who have volunteered and we have lots more openings.
ELECTION OF CLUB OFFICERS FOR 2016-17
According to our by-laws, the first Tuesday in December is our annual general meeting when the election of officers and directors takes place for the ensuing year.And tonight is as close as we could come to having the club elections for 2016-17.
The nominating committee, which consists of your current Board of Directors, has met on 3 occasions and have come up with a plan.
Let's begin. Starting on July 1, 2016 here is what we have so far;
As you may recall, after some reluctance and some coaching, last year's nominating committee asked Dave Andrews to serve, this year, as your Vice President and next year and President in 2016-17 and he has accepted that role. And Dave thanked the club for that tremendous opportunity and knows he can count on everyone's support.
As incoming President, Dave has appointed Devon Biddle to continue on his dedicated service as Treasurer, and he has accepted. Thank you very much, Devon.
.
Bob Koski is stepping down as Secretary and we sure thank him for all of his work this year. Dave has appointed RobbIe Larocque to take over as Secretay and he has accepted. Thank you very much, Robbie.
Dave has also appointed Bob Koski to be our Sargeant At Arms for next year and he has accepted. And he will no doubt, have a committee of assistants to help out during the year. Thank you very much, Bob.
For the position of Vice President for 2016-17 and incoming Presdient, the nominating committee has selected Ted Morrison. Ted has agreed to allow his name to stand for election.
Since there were no other nominations from the floor, and since Ted agreed to allow his name to to stand for election, and since nominations closed and sceonded, and since those present were all in favour, Ted Morrison will be Vice President in 2016-17 and Presidnet in 2017-18.. Dave and all of the members thanked Ted, very much.
Now for the position of Director:
As you may have heard a few weeks ago, Rotary International Presdient Elect John Germ asked Rotary Leaders, in order to have an effectve and vibrant Rotary club, do not break the rules but it is sure okay to bend them. And that is what we are doing tonight.
Firstly, two Directors are staying on , in compliance with our By-laws: Shawn Kellam stays on for the last year of his second, two year term. And Kim Boatman stays on in the second year of her first two year term.
For continuity purposes, I have asked Lennis Trotter to stay on for another two year term, although he has officially completed the second year of his second, two year term. The nominating committee has approved this appointment and Lennis has accepted. Thank you very much, Lennis.
We do have openings for two Directors:
The nominating committee has selected two candidates - Marianna Herczeg and Linda Porritt for the position of Director and they both have agreed to allow their names to stand for election. Since there were no other nominations from the floor, and since nominations were closed andd seconded, and since those present were all in favour, Marianna Herczeg and Linda Porritt will serve as Directors for their first two year term ( 2016-17 and 2017-18). Dave thanked them both, very much.
Dave then asked everyone to join him in congratulating everyone for accepting their positions and help lead our Rotary Club in 2016-17 as we join our incoming Rotary International President John Germ and help, carry out his Theme : Rotary - Serve Humanity.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The “ideal of service” is the key.
It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next.
It is an attitude and passion we all have, as Rotarians.
IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Past President and this year's Secretary Bob Koski has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet.
