THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behaviour that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviours and activities

2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

7. Honour the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavour or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

Land Acknowledgement:

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

Ted Morrison - welcome to Janice. Last Saturday our club and 3 other clubs game together for Kids Against Hunger. It went very smoothly. Set up was done in ¾ of an hr. We packed 40,000 meals in record time and were done by 10:45 am - a great day!!

Tim Dwyre - had fun at Kids Against Hunger. Sat opposite Hilda. Welcome to Janice!

Robert Kipling - very happy with the results of the Oshawa Public Library book sale - raised over $20,000. Will be held again in the spring.

David Andrews - Welcome Janice. Had a great day Saturday at Kids Against Hunger. Then had a meet up with Sue & Bill & Ken Lancaster on Sunday at the Generals Game – thank you Bill - so a great weekend overall.

Hilda Finnigan - Great day at Kids Against Hunger. Glad for the result. Welcome back Janice!

Linda Porritt - Welcome to Janice. Bought a ticket for Kitchener Waterloo Rotary Club’s Catch The Ace. Only one card left so the jackpot is guaranteed.

Janice Coupland - Happy to be here. Kris misses us and think of us often. He is planning to attend the Christmas Party.

- Nov 5th Kids Against Hunger. Thank you to all Rotarians. Special thanks to Ted Morrison for organizing the event.

- Nov. 11th Wreath laying at Memorial Park. Assemble at 10:30 am, service at 11:00 am.

- Nov. 17th at the Officers’ Mess of the Armouries. Night of 1,000 Dinners to benefit Canadian Landmines Association, Tickets are $100.

- Nov 17th. Beaujolais Nouveau Fundraiser. Tickets are $85/person.

-Nov 18th Cobourg Rotary Club’s 100th Anniversary Lunch. Cost is $50/person.

-Donation approved by the Board of Directors for $4000 to Durham College. Subsequent donations pledged of $3000 and $3000 will be brought for approval to future boards.

 - Nov 28th at 11:40 am is our joint meeting with the Oshawa Club and District Governor Iosif Ciosa’s Official Visit

 - Need Bulletin Editors for the new year. Ted Morrison will cover January. Need volunteers for February/March.

 - Dec 3rd is the annual Sharon’s Kids breakfast and collection of gift donations. The event is a drive through 8 am to 10 am. Enter the parking lot off of Orchard View.

 - Dec 13th is the club Christmas party at Bella Notte in Whitby. $52/person

Lennis Trotter

- Hallowe’en at the Safety Village. 6,000 in attendance. Plus 1300 from Grandview. Net proceeds $1200. Ajax Rotary and Whitby Sunrise helped with the event. Also hope they will help at Christmas.

- Nov. 7th  was Kids’ Safety Village Board AGM - Linda Porritt was elected to the Board as a Director.

- Nov. 19^th from 9 am to 2 pm. Need volunteers to setup for the Christmas event.

- Christmas at the Village Nov 24, 25, 26 and Dec. 1, 2,3 4:30 to 8:00 pm. Need Volunteers.

- DRPS will use the Village’s Tap machine to take donations at their Toy & Food Drive. All donations will go to the Kids Safety Village.

David Penney

 - Dec. 10th is the new date for the Feed the Need Concert. Venue change to the Biltmore at 39 King St E in Oshawa. Cost $30/ticket.

-  Foundation Grant seminar is Nov 19th. We have 5 members registered.

 - You can now walk in at the Oshawa Centre (north end - old Sears) for an instant vaccine shot.

SPEAKER: Ted Morrison – Rotary Foundation Month

Past President David Andrews introduced Past District Governor, Past President and Director Responsible for the Foundation, Ted Morrison. Ted also serves on the District 7070 Rotary Foundation Committee.

Ted first reminded us that November is Foundation Month. Rotarians are asked to reflect on the importance of Rotary. Rotary’s #1 priority is the eradication of Polio. But donations to the Polio Foundation are declining. 57% of clubs worldwide donate to Polio. (85% of clubs in Canada.) Only 12% of individual members donate to polio.

Some of the reasons for declining donations? The Ukrainian war, the economy, the pandemic, donor fatigue.

New developments in 2022 - a case of polio in New York caused by virus slough-off from the vaccine, spread to an unvaccinated individual. Israel and the UK have found polio virus in their wastewater.

The end goal for Rotary is: by Dec. 31/23 No New Cases. By Dec. 31/26 World Certified Polio Free.

Our club has donated a cumulative amount of $482,820. We have 18 Paul Harris Fellows. 9 Benefactors. 2 Paul Harris Society members. 2 Major Donors. 1 Arch Klumpf Society member. We have 8,873 recognition points available for awarding Paul Harris Fellowships.

Ted reminded us of the Mission statement of The Rotary Foundation:

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

Ted covered the 3 different funds held by Rotary.

• The Annual Fund - 95% collected goes to programs. 5% for grant administration. The Fund is distributed as District Grants and Global Grants, to fund Peace Scholars and Global Scholars, for Training Teams, and for Humanitarian Grants.

• The Endowment Fund - the principal accumulates. Have a goal of $2.5 billion as a reserve fund to ensure the Future of Rotary. Interest supports Rotary administration. Funds go into the Endowment Fund from the Bequest Society, Benefactors, Major Gift Donors, and the Arch Klumpf Society.

• The Polio Fund - must designate donations specifically for Polio. Funds are spent exclusively on Polio eradication.

Presentation:  Ted presented David Penney with a pin to recognize that he is now a member of the Paul Harris Society.

This year's distinguished speaker will be Dr Alistair Edgar, President of the Canadian Landmines Foundation and a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University.  He will bring a world wide view given that he has flown over a million miles on humanitarian issues.
