Happy Birthday to Willie Kellam on November 22 ANNOUNCEMENTS: Dec 14 - RC of Oshawa Parkwood Christmas party at Harpo’s restaurant in Oshawa. 3 entrees to choose from- beef, salmon or chicken . cost is determined by what you order. Separate billing. Cocktails 5:30 dinner at 6:30 President David and Past President Sue attended the President’s meeting for the weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake They had a great time. Ted thanked the members for their tremendous support selling cakes and hams. We ordered 232 hams and 179 cakes (so far). ORDER DEADLINE: WAS NOV 14 FOR HAMS AND IS NOV 21 ORDER DEADLINE FOR CAKES. GET YOUR NUMBERS TO TED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE Kids Safety Village will be decorated for Christmas ( 5 pm to 8 pm on Nov 26, 27 and 28 and again on December 2,3 and 4, with Dec 5 as the date for the clints and families of Grandview Children’s Centre) Volunteers needed for helping to decorate , and for the evenings as indicated. Please let Hilda Finnigan or Lennis Trotter know when you can put in a volunteer shift or two. Members volunteering at the Kids Safety Village for Christmas activities need a police safety check. Hilda hand out the forms to fill out. President David reminded everyone that Dec 7 will be our Annual General Meetings of our Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood and our Oshawa Parkwood Rotary Club Charitable Foundation where we will select our next year’s President and Directors. Next year’s President and Board will be elected. November 30 is a spouses night where we will hear a story of survival and medical miracle. Please let Hilda know if your spouse is coming and what meal they will have . From Past Pres Sue: Christmas tree sales will commence December 3 and continue until we are sold out. Sale Times: Sat and Sun shift-hours will be: noon to 3:30 pm AND 3:30pm to 7:00pm; Weekday hours will be 3:00pm to 5:00pm and 5:00pm to 7:00pm. PLEASE VOLUNTEER. SIGN UP WITH SUE! Please call Sue and she will sign you up for a shift or two or three. Thank you. ACE OF SPADES: Sgt at Arms Tim Dwyre Draw Winner for Ace of Spades was Robbie Larocque drew 4 of Diamonds. The pot grows. Happy Bucks Sue loved Presidents training last weekend . she discovered she loves ice wine. Robert Kipling reminded us all to watch Canada’s soccer team tonight who is qualifying for the World cup Hilda is just glad to be here. President Dave had a great weekend at the District training. Lennis told us of his granddaughter travelling to Ottawa to play in a hockey tournament . They stayed at the same hotel as the NHL team playing the Ottawa Senators last Saturday. She was able to get some autographs. Tim also glad to be here. David was happy that Rotarian Linda sold his condo in record time It took only four hours. Speaker: : Joe Solway and Ben Erle from Feed the Need Durham Joe promoted the upcoming concert on December 12 at the Regent Theatre in Oshawa. All proceeds go to Feed the need Durham. Eleven acts will be performing in the 2 ½ hour show. Tickets are $30 each. The concert begins at 2pm. Sponsorships are available. Sponsorships for $1000, $500, or $250 are available. Ben gave an overview of how this charity is doing during the pandemic. There has been a 30% increase in demand during the last 20 months. There were 7200 people per month needing food during the pandemic- up from 6400 before. There are a lot of people in Durham that are on the edge of food insecurity. They have distributed 1.75 million meals in Durham during the pandemic. Schools ARE BACK ON LINE BUT PARENTS MUST GIVE PERMISSION. The good news is as the need exploded so did people’s generosity. For every dollar donated they can turn that into seven dollars worth of food distributed. Joe thanked Rotary for our continued support. Hilda thanked our speakers.
