MINUTES OF MEETING: Tuesday, Aug 23, 2022 Editor: Past District Governor Ted Morrison Meeting Called to Order at 6:31 PM: by Past President Sue MacKinnon Land Acknowledgement: From The City of Oshawa: The City of Oshawa sits on treaty land that is steeped in rich Indigenous history and is the present day home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. We acknowledge that we live and work on land covered under the Williams Treaties, and the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. We acknowledge this land out of respect for the many Indigenous nations who have cared for the lands and waters from time immemorial to today. We extend our gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to live and work on this territory. We are committed to understanding the truth of our shared history, confronting our past and present, and building a better future together in the spirit of true reconciliation. Bob Stewart that all three men at his table were named Robert AND they are all of Ukrainian descent
Robt Kipling reminded us that our beloved past member had a birthday and he and his wife celebrated at the gravesite as they do every year.
Al was happy to have Hilda back home after going to Peterborough to play Bridge

Announcements Ted announced that the Rotary Foundation Walk is on September 25 at Heber Downs - Cullen Gardens. Ted handed out pledge sheets so you can solicit your friends and neighbors. Collect the donations and give it to our Treasurer Bill who will write one cheque to The Rotary Foundation. We are hosting this event so plan to attend.
Ted reminded everyone that next Tuesday meeting is at the Oshawa Lawn Bowling club on Beatrice street. Please arrive by 6:15 pm and wear flat soled shoes. We will be going out to dinner after the bowling session to One-Eyed Jacks on Taunton Road just west of Simcoe..

SPEAKER: Mariia Pitolai – Ukrainian Canadian Congress Here is Mariia with Past President Linda and Rotary Club members with a Ukrainian heritage. 
David A introduced Mariia Pitolai. Mariia immigrated from Ukraine to Canada in search fo a better future in 2013. She has become a Professional Regulated Immigration Consultant and a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants. As a part volunteer job, she oversees the legal team at the Durham Ukrainian Relief Project where she shares professional knowledge in a weekly pro-bono information session for Ukrainians. As a member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Durham branch, she also take spart in fundraising social, and informative events for the Ukrainian community. Mariia represented the Ukrainian Canadian Congress-Durham. She gave a detailed history of the aggression by Russia on Ukraine. She has been working hard helping refugees settle in our community. 475,000 have applied to come, 160,000 have been approved but only75,00 have come to Canada. Of those only 300 have settled in Durham Region. They are trying to find housing, food and enrol children in school for the refugees that have arrived here. They have set up a Ukrainian Relief Fund. She is very distraught to see her country torn apart by war and so many civilians killed including children. Her own family is still in Ukraine and that worries her a great deal.
