THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behaviour that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviours and activities

2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

7. Honour the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavour or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. APR 5 – 12 - The Rotary World Curling Championships are in Peterborough in April 2024. This prestigious event, talking place from Friday April 5 - 12, 2024, will be a clash of 23 top-tier teams from the powerhouse curling nations of Canada, the USA, Scotland, and England. Each team has battled through national Rotary curling competitions to secure their spot in this global spectacle. We invite sponsors to gain visibility during this exciting event. Partner with us to showcase your brand to a passionate audience and support this global celebration of sport and fellowship.

APR 9 – Sue MacKinnon announced that is our annual joint meeting with the Kids Safety Village: Our spouses and partners are invited. Sue has circulated a registration sheet. Cost will be $30 per person. Be sure to register today, We will need your help to get exact numbers. Meal will be pasta (meat or vegetarian), please let Sue macKinnon know as soon as possible.

APR 16 – Regular Weekly Meeting – Note the Start time: 6:15 PM to 8:00 PM at the Oshawa Golf Club.              - Speaker: LEARNING TUESDAYS  - ZOOM MEETING   – PUBLIC IMAGE WORKSHOP – “ROTARY -What’s In a Name?” featuring Rotary Public Image Coordinators for Zones 28 and 32: Mary Lou Harrison and Laura Spears along with Rotary International Brand Specialist Liz Thiam. .APR 18 – is  next Bingo Matinee with Ted, Al, Robbie and Lennis. At 11 AM . Please note that nine members currently volunteer  for Bingo. It is our second largest fundraiser. Would like to see more volunteers. Many hands make light work. Please see Hilda or Linda if you can volunteer.

APR 27 - 2024 ROTARY GREAT LAKES WATARSHED CLEANUP:

Great Lakes Water Cleanup – 9:30 am to 11:30 am at The Second Marsh with Oshawa and Courtice  Rotary Clubs. Please let Dave know as soon as possible if you are attending. We need to advise numbers by April 15. Bring your own water (in a reusable bottle) and a picker if you have one. Wear boots. It will be wet walking. 9 Civic Leaders so far will be attending. Park along Col Sam Drive near Second marsh sign (on south side of road). Rotary Great Lakes Watershed T Shirts are available for $15. Please let Dave Andrews know if you wish to buy a T shirt by April 15.

APR 27 – Bingo at the Red Barn – 11 am to 3:30 pm

It is RIBFEST Season. Be sure to volunteer your services and help the neighbouring Rotary Clubs  at any one or more of the following Ribfests coming very soon:

Ajax - May 24-26; Bowmanville - June 7-9; Pickering - June 14-16; Whitby-Sunrise - June 12-14; Oshawa Aug. 16-18.

Ted Morrison  - Thanked everyone who came out to the Maple Syrup labeling party (it took 26 minutes to label 300 bottles) . We are sold out. Please be sure to pick up you bottles from Bill Creamer and please get your payments in as soon as possible.  Looks like we forgot to label one box.

Ted Morrison announced that Silent auction items are needed SOON. Take a picture of your contribution and send it to Dave Andrews for publication/advertising.

Ted Morrison - reminds us to bring cash for briefcase, heads or tails game and table tickets.

Ted Morrison  - for the Reverse Draw night (May 9) we need  a House Committee to help with the auction set-up (at 3 PM) and runners to handle the successful bids and to help our patrons to their seats. There will be lots of jobs to be filled at the auction so be prepared to take on a task.

Sue MacKinnon thanked all of the volunteers for coming out and helping at the Easter Eggstravaganza at the Kids Safety Village on March 29 and 30. Over 4,800 in attendance over the two days and over $4,000.00 in donations.

Dave Andrews - reminded everyone that he has Reverse Draw Tickets for us and that the marketing material he has provided for us should be utilized. Only 130 tickets out so far. Our goal is to sell all 200 tickets. Get your Silent Auction items as soon as you can and send photo and retail price and donor name to Dave A so he can create posters.

Hilda Finnigan - Thank you for bingo volunteers, the list done for the April through June time frame.

Hilda Finnigan – Ploughman’s Choice Sale for 2024 is ON NOW. We will be at the North Oshawa farmers market starting on May 11 for 4 weeks and also there for 6 weeks in the fall.

Hilda Finnigan – Our Club will be selling Ploughman’s Choice 100% composted livestock manure and Bird Feeders at the 2024 Peony Festival in the Oshawa Botanical Gardens on June 8. Volunteers are need to help sell . A volunteer sign-up sheet will be passed around very soon

President Linda Porritt - Annual Rotary Curling Bonspiel is in Peterborough

President Linda Porritt - The 9th Annual Inter-Rotary Club Spelling Bee is coming up with 7 Rotary Clubs involved. Each Rotary Club donates $500 to cover prizes and promotional material.   The Spelling Bee is for Grades 4 - 6 (Junior) and Grades 7 - 8 (Intermediate).  The regional finals will be held at Bayside secondary School and aired on YOUR TV on May 11, 2024.  A joint Competition in the form of an Adult Spelling Bee will be hosted by the Trenton Rotary Club at These 4 Walls on Monday, April 15th as a taste of what's to come..
