We're made up of local business, professional, and civic leaders. 

We meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and through that, we're able to get things done in our community.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behaviour that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviours and activities

2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

7. Honour the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavour or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

DEC 1 and 2 AND DEC 7 & 8: Christmas at the Kids Safety Village   - Lennis Trotter announced that we need lots of volunteers from our club for all four evenings. 4:30 pm to 8 pm – See Sue MacKinnon to sign up.

DEC  10 – Concert for Feed The Need in Durham – The 11 Rotary Clubs in Durham Region invite everyone in Rotary, Rotaract clubs and the whole Rotary family in District 7070 in southern to the 6th Annual Concert for Feed The Need in Durham. Arranged by Joe Solway, Rotary Club of Bowmanville.

The Concert to Feed the Need in Durham is a co-presentation of Rotary clubs of Durham Region and Feed the Need in Durham. It brings together award winning musicians from across the Region in support of Feed the Need in Durham, which collects and distributes food to over 65 emergency food providers across Durham, including food banks, shelters, meal and snack programs and other social service agencies. Feed the Need in Durham provides over 1.5M meals to Durham residents annually.

Ted Morrison announced that the Cakes/Hams have arrived on November 27, 2023 at McIntosh Anderson Kellan Funeral Home for the big orders to pick up. The balance is at Bill Creamer’s for members to pick up.

Hilda Finnigan announced that our Participation House Christmas Lunch is being held on December 5, 2023. Lunch is $30.00 per person  11:30 am start. At The Jubilee Pavilion.  

Hilda Finnigan reminds us that our club Christmas Party will be held on December 12 with a venue of Larry Hurren’s Condo Party Room. Cost $50 per person. Start at 5:30 pm.

REMINDER: Robert K. reminded the Club of an upcoming concert at the Simcoe Street United Church on December 20, 2023. The Professors of Funk will be performing tickets are priced at $25.00 general admission and $50.00 reserved seats. It's the return of the Professors of Funk Friends & Family Christmas Special! Established in 2014, this annual concert for the Back Door Mission quickly became reknowned as one of Oshawa and Durham's signature holiday events and we're setting the stage again for an unforgettable experience. JAN 2 – Regular Meeting – 6 to 8 pm – Oshawa Golf Club. We will be ordering off the Golf Club menu and having a dinner with our Rotary members. No scheduled meeting agenda or speaker. It is a welcome back to the new year. Golf Club members can pay by signing a chit. Non members can pay by credit card.

GUEST SPEAKERS:      At this Joint meeting of the Rotary Club’s of Oshawa and Oshawa-Parkwood John Burns our District Governor was our guest speaker. This meeting is John’s official visit to our clubs.

Assistant Governor Gord Wallace introduced our District Governor John Burns.

John shared with our Club’s the vision from Rotary International and Rotary President Gordon McInally, Create Hope in the World.

In recent years, John noted that Rotaract has become an equal partner with Rotary and are becoming fully engaged with Rotary – very challenging to carry out but we will do it. 

Rotary continues to support programs of Empowering Girls as well as Expanding Rotary’s reach to continue our quest for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion.

District Governor John asked our Club and all members in our District 7070 to donate $10.00 to End Polio Now – His Personal Goal. District Governor John spoke of an image which he saw during the District Conference  -  a picture that had 40 Iron Lungs many with Children. We need to End Polio Now.

On another occasion during D.G. John’s training John spoke of an interaction with a woman who survived a Thailand Tsunami. She spoke of a shell which offered her Hope.

A prime example of R.I President 2023-2024 Rotary Theme, ‘Create Hope in the World’. Lastly, D.G. John spoke of another area of focus, mental health. D.G. John offered a very thoughtful statement ‘Reaching out is Courageous’.

Indeed, most of us have known or know someone who is suffering from mental illness. In fact, D.G. John spoke of a situation where R. I. President lost his own brother to suicide due to a mental illness episode. We are all touched by mental illness we need to continue together to remove the stigma of mental illness so those who suffer are courageous enough to seek assistanc
