ANNOUNCEMENTS OUR REGULAR WEEKLY MEETINGS WILL NOT BE AT THE OSHAWA GOLF CLUB UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. We will let you know when that may happen. As it stands right now, the Oshawa Golf Club is not hosting any outside organizations (such as ourselves) at the present time. The 2020 Foundation Walk to raise money for the Rotary Foundation – Congratulations to Presdient Sue for setting up our Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood Walk for the Rotary Foundation, So nice to see everyone there. Special hello to Tim Dwyre and our Honourary member Allan. President Sue organized our own walk on October 18, at1 PM at Cullen Park. It was flat, has wide pavement that will allow for social distancing. And did we ever walk. Thank you to District Governor Mark Chipman for walking every step of the way with us. Everyone walked as far as they could and turned around and returned to covered area. All areas were spacious and social distancing is not only essential but possible. We all wore our Rotary clothing .And we all raised funds for the Rotary Foundation. Post walk note: You may contribute: by going on-line to the rotary.org website , press the donate button and follow the instructions. Donations should be made to the Annual Fund. You will receive a proper receipt for tax purposes. OR get your cheques or cash to our Treasurer Bill and he will send it to The Rotary Foundation and you will still get credit toward your next Paul Harris Award level. 
DUES ARE DUE: You have all received an invoice from our Treasurer, Bill Creamer, for the 2020-21 Rotary Dues. There are still members who have not paid. The Annual Dues will be $230.00. At the same time, you will have the option to make a donation to The Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund of $100 and a donation to The Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Funds for $20 (or more if you wish). You will be credited towards your next Paul Harris Fellow Award. Please pay your dues promptly when you get your invoice, by mailing or dropping off your cheque (or cash), payable to the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood, to 96 King Street East, Oshawa L1H 1B6. Thank you everyone. We have already paid our semi annual invoice from Rotary International. You can send him a cheque or you can pay Bill bye-transfer. Bill and Sue have been the only ones helping so far. Please contact Bill or Sue if you can help. This is a commitment we have as a Rotary Club to ensure the success of this very important community service. Monday is our day to volunteer. BULLETIN EDITORS REQUIRED: Volunteers Are Still Required NOW – We need help, members. Past President Hilda Finnigan is asking everyone in the club to volunteer for a month and write the Club Bulletin. August was looked after. Thank you, Janice Coupland and Kris Sachdeva for August. Thank you, Ted Morrison for doing September. Since NO ONE else has volunteered, Janice has volunteered again to do the bulletin in October. (Editor’s note: It is time for more club members to step up and do your duty – volunteer). We need editors for November 2020 through June 2021. And it is not too late to assist Jan and take over October. Please let Hilda Finnigan know as soon as you can. MEMBERSHIP RELATED ZOOM SESSIONS OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS OF OUR ROTARY CLUB - includes a New Members Get-togethers, and a Grow Rotary Workshops for all Rotarians and Rotaractors (register for the following workshops online at rotary7070.org.) NEW MEMBERS’ GETTOGETHER – 1 hour on a weekday evening – currently all slated on Zoom – what an excellent opportunity for any member, new or old, to learn more about Rotary. Everyone is welcome. GROW ROTARY WORKSHOPS – Approximately 90 minutes on a Saturday morning - currently all slated on Zoom – interact with Rotarians from all over the District. Get ideas and offer ideas how we can grow our club membership. A Zoom link will be sent on Friday Oct 2nd to everyone who has registered by 9 p.m. on Oct 1. Are you interested in your club’s path to Grow Rotary ? Having a strong vibrant Rotary Club involves Membership - looking after our members - new, seasoned and potential, Public Image – reaching out to our communities showing them what we do and showing the power of what we can do – our Foundation. Hear from some D7070 Clubs that are successfully Growing Rotary in the current situation. We encourage at least 3 members from a club to attend so you can share the discussion and work on plans integrating Membership, Public Image and Foundation in your growth strategy. We Need to be there by 5 PM. Note: Only 4 volunteers at the Bingos at the present time: ONE Banker. TWO front desk Sales People and ONE U Pick Em Sales Person. WE STILL NEED ONE BANKER PLUS One more volunteer. Please see Hilda or Sandy as soon as possible. Volunteers Are Still Required NOW - We need help, members. Please let Sandy know if YOU are available for future Bingos. Things are different under COVID-19. With only 2 bingo sessions a day, we may only get one bingo per month. Stay tuned. Here is a note from the Red Barn: As part of stage 3, upon opening, we will only be permitted 50 customers per session. This restriction, although keeps everyone safer, makes it very difficult to operate our regular bingo schedule. Please be patient with us in this introductory phase as we anticipate opening with 2 events per day (12:30 pm and 6:45 pm) with new programs that must be geared towards smaller crowds due to the temporary capacity restrictions. We have applied for a special request to increase the number of patrons permitted in the hall and we shall give you an update as soon as we have one. Please know that we are working very hard towards opening and offering a product that is acceptable to you until things get back to normal.
PLEASE NOTE: Doors will be opened at 11:30 am for our 12:30 pm session and 5:45 pm for the 6:45 pm session.
The Snack Bar will be closed until further notice but we have installed Vending Machines with Cold and Hot Beverages and Snacks for your convenience.
The health and wellness of our customers, charities, and staff are paramount. Upon arrival, customers will be greeted by an attendant at the front entrance to ensure social distancing is adhered to. Please note that if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath; or if you have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days; or if someone you are in close contact with tested positive for Covid 19; or if you have been told to self-isolate by a medical professional or Public Health, we apologize but you will not be permitted to enter the premises.
Other Precautions in effect:
Promoting Social Distancing by managing traffic flow throughout our hall.
Customers, Staff and Charity Volunteers are asked to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet whenever possible.
Customers will be seated 6 feet from each other.
Sneeze Guards are placed at all selling stations.
Sanitizing Stations have been implemented throughout the hall. Please use the provided hand sanitizer when entering the building and we encourage you to clean hands frequently with soap and warm water or hand sanitizer.
Regular cleaning/disinfecting of all surface areas. Table tops and chair frames will be thoroughly cleaned/disinfected in between bingo sessions.
All staff and charity volunteers are required to wear masks or face coverings.
Customers are required wear masks or face coverings at all times while in the hall. If you do not have your own mask one will be provided for you.
Restroom have enhanced automatic capabilities.

Red Barn Management and Staff WORLD POLIO DAY 2020 IN DURHAM REGION: OCT 19 AT 1 PM – FLAG RAISING AT OSHAWA CITY HALL: Our club members joined members of the Oshawa Rotary Club and Mayor Dan Carter for the official flag raising ceremony to proclaim October 24, 2020 as World Polio Day in the City of Oshawa. Wear you Rotary clothing. 
WORLD POLIO DAY 2020 IN DURHAM REGION: OCT 22 FROM 7 TO 8:30 PM VIA LIVESTREAM: Congratulations to the Committee and thank you for joining the 10 Durham Region Rotary Clubs live from the Global Classroom in the Centre for Collaborative Education at Durham College where we will celebrate World Polio Day with leaders from around the world. This year, it was online. Spouses, guests and prospective members, your friends and all clubs in District 7070 and all over the world were watching. Proclamations presentations and flag raisings from the 8 City and Region Mayors to our 10 clubs in Durham Region will also be shown by video. We were welcomed by Don Lovisa (Presdient of Durham Colege), Jennifer Jones,( RI President nominee for 2022-23) , RI Director Valarie Wafer and District Governor Mark Chipman. Dr. Bob Scott, immediate past chair of Rotary’s PolioPlus Committee (worldwide) will be our keynote speaker, updating everyone on Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio from this world. He will be talking LIVE with Ian Riseley, Past President Rotary International, from Australia, and Dr Tunji Funsho, Nigeria’s National VChair of the PolioPlus Program who was just named one of Time Magazine’s top 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2020. We were also joined by Monique Masoud, a student at Durham College who received those two drops of vaccine when she was a child growing up in Pakistan. We also saw the Rotary International 2020 World Polio Day broadcast and we livestreamed that too to everyone in the world. All clubs in the District watched the event. BULLETIN EDITOR for October 2020 is, for the second time, Janice Coupland. Thank you to Past District Governor Ted Morrison. for volunteering for September. Who is going to VOLUNTEER for November, December, januay, etc? . Please Let Hilda know if you can do a month’s worth of bulletins as soon as possible. FUNDRAISING: President Sue and her committee are looking at having a VIRTUAL DINNER with Bistro 238 in the near future. It may even be on an ongoing basis , every two weeks. We need volunteer drivers one evening, every two weeks. Please let President Sue know as soon as you can. Lots to plan for this fundraiser. We need your help. This would include a meal that could be picked up or delivered. Sue has established a committee to look into it: Jan, Tim, Ana, Sue, Dave A, Dave P and Linda. Details to follow. President Sue announced another big fundraisier for December 1 thru Dec 23 at the Oshawa Centre, outside, WINTERLUDE. We have been asked by the Rotary Club of Oshawa to join them in selling Christmas trees , outside, every day from Dec 1 to 23. We will need everyone in our club to help. And we can use students too who need their community hours. Please let President Sue know if you can volunteer. The list is being developed as we speak. Thank you all. 2020 CAKES AND HAMS: Ted Morrison, Chair, again this year, for what may be our big fundraiser this year. We need funds to help those in our communities who need it the most. Timing is crucial. Deadline for ordering is NOVEMBER 15, Delivery will be first week of December. We really need everyone in our club to double their efforts and reach out to more than who we sold to in previous years. You have the order form, and all of the details. Cakes: $25 each. 2.8 lb holiday fruit cake in a cardboard box with a Rotary sticker. order with Ted Morrison by November 22. Pick up Nov 30 Hams: $30 each. 2 kg Black Forest ham, in the plastic bag from Brandt Meats. order with Ted Morrison by November 15. Pick up Nov 30. Note: If COVID-19 affects the western Canada suppliers again this year, we may not be able to deliver.
