We meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and through that, we're able to get things done in our community.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behaviour that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviours and activities

2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

7. Honour the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavour or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

We are gathered this evening on Treaty Lands that are steeped in rich Indigenous History. These Lands remain home to many First Nations, Metis and Inuit People. We acknowledge that we gather this evening on the Traditional Territories of the Mississaugas of Scugog First Nations.

Al Finnigan had the winning ticket and he drew the Ace of Hearts... sorry Al. But Al won the consolation prize -  a new smoke alarm, compliments of Derrick Clark and the Oshawa Fire Dept.

HAPPY BUCKS:

Dave Andrews- happy that Derrick (the Oshawa Fire Chief) is here

Lennis- sad that the heater line  blew in the Tornado on the Ambassador Bridge. Happy they got hose taped up and running.

John -   Happy they had a good time in Frankenmuth and kids having a good time in Antique stores

Bob Koski - Happy he had a good round of golf and a nice golf day

Al- Not happy he lost $2.00 to Keith at the golf course

Robbie- Happy his son Elliot had his 19th Birthday. And saw Moody Blues at Casino Rama

The District 7070 conference is on October 15 and 16.

Ken Hurst of the Ajax Rotary club announced that they are having an open house at Wind Reach farms to raise money for the Foundation on the Sept 16.

The Rotary club of Toronto is having a show and tell at Centennial featuring the new Energy display .

September 25 -  Is the Rotary Foundation Walk. Hilda needs the number of walkers from our club, Robbie distributed a sign up sheet

On September 28 -  There is a membership webinar details on the web Rotary web site. October 1 - Courtice Rotary club is having the bus trip down to the Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox. 11:30 to 7:30 pm. Game time 3:07 pm. Cost $95 per person. Courtice and Whitby pick up points. We need volunteers to paint the fence on the north side of Parkwood estate on the Sept 27., between 9.00 am and about 1 pm , then a late lunch or early dinner to be arranged. Spouses and friends welcome.

 Dave Andrews:  World Polio day is October 20^th. register for the Global classroom ASAP as only 100 people can be accommodated Is the Global Foundation presentation at the global class room at the Durham College. Sandwiches and cash bar. Cost is $35.00  (with $10 going to PolioPlus Fund in your name)

Ted Morrison;  Parkwood is providing  the paint for the fence painting for the 100 foot section we are providing the           labour  and paint brushes etc.

SPEAKER: Derrick Clark – Chief, Oshawa Fire Service

Dave Andrews introduced Derrick Clark.   The Oshawa Fire Chief

Derrick updated us on the progress being made

• A new station is being added in the north end of Oshawa making for a total of 6 stations

• A new training tower is being built at the tank museum and will be ready in 4 to 6 weeks

• They have partnered with General Motors to develop a new Pulse Point APP.

• They are supporting the wounded warriors mental health program

• The dispatch service has been up dated

• They have launched an Electronic inspection and education system cyclone

• Facility repairs and renovations are being completed on stations 1,.2,.3,.4.and 5

• 1 ERO Cyclone platform Aerial and 3 small vehicles have been purchased

• Recruiting 11 new staff and restructuring fire services and command team

Derrick showed us a heat map of the Oshawa area most fires where concentrated in older areas and  rental properties

They are working on a new emergency APP. You type in 3 words and they can face time your location.

The Fire Department is participating in programs and education at the Kids Safety Village.

Tim Dwyer thanked Derrick for his informative and well presented presentation.

President Robbie closed the meeting at 8.10 pm.

Announcements: REMINDERS

SONGS OF HOPE CONCERT FOR UKRAINE is on September 24 in  the Town Hall at  Port Perry., tickets are $50.00 at 6.00pm and 8 pm.  There will be a host of theatre songs of hope from top notch talent who have donated their time there will be a live band. The 3 main goals of the concert and fund raiser:   1. Medical supplies for Ukraine;  2. An operating table  for the hospital in Ukraine; and  3. Winter cold weather supplies .

Join us for an evening of song & dance performed by some of Toronto’s top musical theatre performers & musicians, aspiring young talent, & special appearances from members of our Ukrainian community. All proceeds will go to Health Partners International (HPI) (www.hpicanada.ca) which purchases near expired pharmaceuticals (including life saving medication), to deliver to the front lines for Ukrainian refugees who have had to flee their homes leaving all possessions behind. This is a licensed event available prior to each performance. All ages welcome. Get your tickets to Songs of Hope, a benefit concert on September 24 at Town Hall 1873 Theatre in Port Perry for Ukraine. Tickets are $50 and available at https://townhalltheatre.ca/ . REMINDER: Dave A announced - Oct 13  - Bistro 67  Followed by a tour of Durham College Skills Trade center. eryone was in agreement. DOORS OPEN AT 5:30 PM, YOU MAY ORDER DRINKS WITH YOUR DINNER. Dinner at 5:40 pm, then go over to the new Skills Trade Centre for a tour with DC Pres Don Lovisa. Cost $35 per person  (plus tax and tip). You will pay Bistro 67 after your meal. Entree: harvest bowl salad with chicken and Dessert. Spouses and guests welcome. Please let Hilda know by Oct 9 number in your party. We are attaching a nice evening event announcement from Durham College.
