THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behaviour that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviours and activities

2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

7. Honour the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavour or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

Land Acknowledgement:

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

Tulip sales at the District Conference “shades” of Bill Patchett (all sold out for 2022)

Kids Against Hunger  November 5^th; some volunteers needed early  (7:30 am) to unload

supplies and set up the room. District Grant received in the amount of $6,000 for this project     means we can pack 37,900 meals.

Manure Sales Report - $9100.00 sales vs $8000.00 cost; inventory $4900.00

• Suggest an increase in price for next spring sales $8.00/bag

• Need to review Market frequency and volunteers (set up, teardown requirements, etc.)

• Birdhouses, Butterfly Houses, Bird feeders, etc., thanks to Lennis  (net $70.00)

• Tulip sales went well thanks to Ted at Foundation Walk and District Conference; check presented at World Polio Day October 20^th

• Great exposure for Rotary with tent

Robert Kipling happy to know about the Night of 1000 Dinners.

Speaker:

David Andrews introduced Yves Gadler,  Lakeridge Health Foundation.

Yves spoke about the current fundraising efforts to purchase a Robotic Surgical Device for  Lakeridge Oshawa. This will provide for more intricate surgical procedures in the fields of   Prostate, Gynecologic, Thoracic and Colorectal surgery. These “state of the art” techniques

are significant in the treatment of cancer.  This will also be a great advantage in attracting  newly graduated surgeons to Durham Region as these techniques are a now a part of their  training .

The completion of this fundraiser is expected by October 2023.Yves also mentioned that the PET  CT scanner is now available at Lakeridge Oshawa which means that our cancer patients can get this diagnostic test without traveling to other centres. 

Our contributions to Lakeridge Oshawa over many years is in excess of $150,000 and much appreciated. Our last  endeavour  was towards the purchase of Smart IV Pumps for the Cancer Center.
