The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood is also very active helping the world community.

Our major focus, since 1985, is to eradicate polio from the world. This is Rotary's promise to the children of the world. Our goal is to have this planet polio free. We are 99.999% there today. Your assistance is always appreciated in this endeavour, along with the 33,000 Rotary Clubs in over 200 countries.

The Club has sponsored a cataract eye operation camp in India through Operation Eyesight International, and donated funds to the Canadian Land Mines Foundation which deactivates land mines in war torn countries, such as Bosnia-Herzagovina and Cambodia. When the war is over , the land mines remain.

The Rotary Club is also active in providing books and computers to schools in Guatemala along with many Rotary Clubs through The Guatemala Literacy Program.

In addition, the Rotary Club has assisted with an orphanage and school in Uganda to help provide clean water and sanitation to the school children through the Organization For a Good Life Marginalized.

Shelter Box Canada has been given enough money, on many occasions, by The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood for a Shelter Box. In times of disaster, many thousands of people are often left homeless and without basic shelter and survival equipment. Shelterbox Canada stands at the ready to provide aid to those in need anywhere in the world. Each Shelter Box provides a dry shelter, warm bed, light and heat, clean water, cooking aids and tools for 10 people.

Other International Service projects include:

  • donaions to help build a school in Haiti
  • providing equipment to a rehabilitation centre in Trinidad
