SPEAKER:

Dave A introduce our speaker Steve Routledge from the Whitby Sunrise  Rotary club who spoke about his long-time project Adopt a Village in Laos. (see: https://adoptavillageinlaos.wordpress.com/ )

Steve has been going to Laos for this project since 2009. He and his team of volunteers bring safe drinking water to families in villages in the mountain area of Laos.

He showed a video which showed the work done in the last year. By building small dams, they divert water from rivers to pipes which take the water to remote villages, then store it in large containers. Families get their water from the containers and using water purifying tanks in their homes, they can have potable water in their home.

They provided 608 water purifiers last year. The infant mortality rate decreased from 8% down to 2%.

Because of COVID they are about 3,000 filters behind. The work goes on.

David Mankiewicz thanked Steve..

President Robbie closed the meeting at 7:50 pm.
