Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 1. Acting Chair David Andrews announced that our President is taking a three month leave of absence to undergo Chemo Therapy for Cancer. We all wish Robbie the best as he starts this journey. He is available by email or phone

  1. Dave A now has tickets for this year’s REVERSE DRAW_on May 11 Tickets are $150. The increase in price is mainly due to an increase in the cost of the meal. He asked everyone to think about possible sponsors. Get your tickets from Dave.

  1. Ted encouraged everyone to be on the lookout for silent auction items. The goal is 60 again this year. The average price of an item should be $100. Try and get experiences rather than things if possible.

  1. We have APR 1 and 2 as dates to volunteer at Purple Woods Pancake Breakfast. Volunteers could include spouses , children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors. For more info on the Purple Woods Pancake Breakfast  (see: https://www.cloca.com/maple-syrup-festival )

5. Rotary Leadership Institute  - PART I is Wednesday evenings in February  8 15 AND 22 FROM 6 TO 8 PM – Please register TODAY: https://rotary7070.org/event/copy-of-district-7070-rli-part-1--sep-14--21-and-28th-2022/. Robbie encouraged members to sign up for a refresher about Rotary.

  1. In May, District is having a Rotary Youth leadership Symposium. The 2023 Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium (RYLS) is taking place, May 11-14, 2023 at the Ganaraska Forest Centre! The 3-night experience is geared toward youth between the ages of 17-23 and will offer an inspiring program including: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Reconciliation and Land Based Education, Hands-on Activities, Group Dynamics, Public Speaking, Outdoor Survival and GPS Geocache adventures along with campfires, friendship and tons of fun and learning!!! All this for only $375 per participant which covers all programs, accommodation, and meals. Rotary Clubs are encouraged to find and sponsor eligible participants within their community, as well as members of the Rotaract and Interact Clubs that they host. There are only 30 spots available!  Online applications and further details will be available on the Rotary District 7070 website and all District social media channels by January 31, 2023.   1. Lennis announced Easter celebrations at the Kids Safety Village April 7 & 8 from 10am until 2pm. 5 or 6 Rotary Club Volunteers needed from our club each day.

2   John Henry was glad to be here and he offered a silent auction prize of Lunch with the Chairman.

3   Bob Koski was happy and so was Lennis but I did not write it down sorry guys.

4.  David Penney was happy that his snowblower started on the first pull! That never happens and it did it twice.

5.  Dave A was happy to have Mark Sherriff. Thank you Stewy for inviting Mark .

6   Lina was happy to have been invited by Rhonda Stewart to attend tonight.

7   Ted put in a sad buck to report that he attended the celebration of life for Michael Parker, a good friend and Rotarian from Cobourg who was an Assistant Governor and our Districts Disaster relief coordinator.
