Meeting Called to Order at 6:31 PM: by President Robbie Larocque

Land Acknowledgement:

We are gathered this evening on Treaty Lands that are steeped in rich Indigenous History. These Lands remain home to many First Nations, Metis and Inuit People. We acknowledge that we gather this evening on the Traditional Territories of the Mississaugas of Scugog First Nations.

Hilda Finnigan had the winning ticket and she drew the Queen of Diamonds... sorry Hilda. But Hilda won the consolation prize -  a new smoke alarm, compliments of Chief Derrick Clark and the Oshawa Fire Dept, which she gave back to the club for another draw  (she got one last week when Al won). .

Dave Andrews- happy that Joe and Ben are here to tell us about Feed The Need and the Concert to Feed The Need

Bob Koski - Happy he had a good round of golf and a nice golf day

Made Icicle pickles with Patty put his glove hand in the hot water bath it was not pleasant, might scrap                  project next year..

David Penny – Happy that the service on his stove was a problem with the element and had it replaced and not the

                        memory board. But had to call service man back for a recall, there was a loose wire, now the element will

                        not shut off, they are waiting for another service call.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Ted Morrison  - Parkwood is providing the paint for the fence painting for the 100 foot section we are providing the labour  and paint brushes etc.

Lennis – Kids Safety Village Halloween is October 28th and 29th. They will need 6 volunteers for the gate   volunteers in house 1 at the railway crossing

October 1 - Courtice Rotary club is having the bus trip down to the Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox. 11:30 to 7:30 pm. Game time 3:07 pm. Cost $95 per person. Courtice and Whitby pick up points. We need recorders for the bulletin for January, February, March 2023. Linda will do November 2022

We need volunteers to paint the fence on the north side of Parkwood estate on the Sept 27., between 9.00 am and about 1 pm , then a late lunch or early dinner to be arranged. Spouses and friends welcome.

 

 Dave Andrews:  World Polio day is October 20 . PLEASE REGISTER for the Global classroom ASAP as only 100 people can be accommodated Is the Global Foundation presentation at the global class room at the Durham College. Sandwiches and cash bar. Cost is $35.00  (with $10 going to PolioPlus Fund in your name)

SPEAKER: Joe Solway – Concert for Feed The Need in Durham & Ben Earle – Feed The Need

Dave Penney introduced Joe Solway and Ben Earle,  Executive director of Feed the Need  in Durham

Joe and Ben from feed the Need Durham are co producing a concert on December 11, 2022 featuring 9 talented top notch local musicians. This will be held at the newly renovated Oshawa Music Hall on Bond street in Oshawa .

They have 3 sponsors already totalling $7,500.00. Joe would like more sponsors. Please contact Joe if you wish to sponsor.

Tickets are $30.00 and all proceeds will go to feed the Need Durham

 

 

Ben gave us an update on Feed the Need in Durham (see: https://feedtheneedindurham.ca/ )

Feed the Need Durham collects the food and equitably distributes it throughout Durham
  • The bulk of the food comes from large companies Loblaws, Sobeys, Walmart and government (Provincial food Ontario.).

  • They are presently offering a new afterhours emergency  service

  • They are working with 60 Ukrainian families for their food needs and have opened a new front-line walk-in service

  • Feed the Need provide food to 9,000 to 10,000 people per month and distributed 1.8 million pounds of food last year and are predicting 2 million pounds this year will be required.

Dave Andrews thanked Joe and Ben for their informative and well-presented look at Feed The Need and the Concert..

Announcements: REMINDERS

 

SONGS OF HOPE CONCERT FOR UKRAINE is on September 24 in  the Town Hall at  Port Perry., tickets are $50.00 at 6.00pm and 8 pm.  There will be a host of theatre songs of hope from top notch talent who have donated their time there will be a live band. The 3 main goals of the concert and fund raiser:   1. Medical supplies for Ukraine;  2. An operating table  for the hospital in Ukraine; and  3. Winter cold weather supplies .

 

Join us for an evening of song & dance performed by some of Toronto’s top musical theatre performers & musicians, aspiring young talent, & special appearances from members of our Ukrainian community. All proceeds will go to Health Partners International (HPI) (www.hpicanada.ca) which purchases near expired pharmaceuticals (including life saving medication), to deliver to the front lines for Ukrainian refugees who have had to flee their homes leaving all possessions behind. This is a licensed event available prior to each performance. All ages welcome. Get your tickets to Songs of Hope, a benefit concert on September 24 at Town Hall 1873 Theatre in Port Perry for Ukraine. Tickets are $50 and available at https://townhalltheatre.ca/ . REMINDER: Dave A announced - Oct 13  - Bistro 67  Followed by a tour of Durham College Skills Trade center. eryone was in agreement. DOORS OPEN AT 5:30 PM, YOU MAY ORDER DRINKS WITH YOUR DINNER. Dinner at 5:40 pm, then go over to the new Skills Trade Centre for a tour with DC Pres Don Lovisa. Cost $35 per person  (plus tax and tip). You will pay Bistro 67 after your meal. Entree: harvest bowl salad with chicken and Dessert. Spouses and guests welcome. Please let Hilda know by Oct 9 number in your party.
