Robert K. – The big Annual Booksale at the Oshawa Library runs this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Prices very low with $ 2.00 being the highest price and many items much cheaper than that. I took my son a few years ago to this fine event and we had trouble carrying all of the books he bought ( with my money of course ).

Sandy The Oshawa Express excelled in the recent Awards garnering 2 First Places and a Second

Mike – learned at a Seminar that people who do volunteer work tend to live longer

Sue – Happy to see people volunteering for Bingo this week

Hilda – couldn’t hear

David A – Mike from our Club is writing an investment column for the Oshawa Express. That is Rotary Vocational Service in Action. Way to go Mike. It looks like even more Awards for this great Paper next year

Ted Dionne – had cataract eye surgery so glasses gone

Ted M. – Ted getting juicy Refund from CRA

GUEST SPEAKER:

Introduced by Past Pres Hilda Finnigan, we heard an excellent and very compelling presentation by Linda Lowry on Lyme Disease.

We learned enough about Ticks and Lyme Disease to justifiably terrify us. She caught it 10 years ago and it has a painful and expensive struggle. Black legged deer ticks are the main culprit. In 2008 the World Health Organization declared it a worldwide Epidemic. The bacteria are similar to Syphillis. Symptoms can be fatigue, rash, nausea, vertigo, mind fog etc. Initial tests in Canada often come back with false Negative. Some people who have been infected are believed to have ALS or Alzheimers or MS. Linda recommends all families purchase tick kits. Recommends staying out of long grass unless you have long pants and trouser legs tucked into socks, put away the bird feeders as Robins and Sparrows sometimes carry ticks, keep  your dogs from_sleeping on your bed, keep grass mowed short.

She has no idea how she got infected.

It was an excellent talk and triggered many questions afterwards from our Members.

President Linda thanks Linda Lowry.
