Annual General Meetings of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood and the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood Charitable Foundation and the Presentation of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood Strategic Plan
In President Ted's and Vice President Linda's absence, Past President Dave Andrews presided over the club's annual meeting.
According to our by-laws, the first Tuesday in December is our annual general meeting when the election of officers and directors takes place for the ensuing year. And tonight is as close as we could come to having the club elections for 2018-19. The nominating committee, which consists of your current Board of Directors, has met on 3 occasions and have come up with a plan
.For the Rotary year starting on July 1, 2018 here is what we have so far:
As you may recall, the nominating committee asked Linda Porritt, this Rotary year, as your Vice President and next year as President in 2018-19 and she has accepted that role. And on behalf of all of the members in the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood, we thank you.
Ted Morrison is our Past President for 2018-19 and has also agreed to stay on in a dual role capacity as Director of the Rotary Foundation Committee for our Rotary Club in 2018-19. Again, we thank you , Ted for serving our Club with that very important role again next year.
As incoming President, Linda has appointed Devon Biddle to continue on with his dedicated service as Treasurer, and he has accepted. Thank you very much, Devon.
Linda has appointed RobbIe Larocque to continue on with his dedicated service as Secretay and he has accepted. Thank you very much, Robbie.
Linda has also appointed Sonya Thompson to serve our Rotary Club as our Sargeant At Arms for 2018-19 and she has accepted. And she will no doubt, have a committee of assistants to help out during the year. Thank you very much, Sonya.
For the position of Vice President for 2018-19 and President for the 2019-20 Rotary Year, the nominating committee has selected Lennis Trotter. Lennis has agreed to allow his name to stand for election.There were no other nominations from the floor. Hilda Finnigan moved and Devon Biddle seconded the motion to close nominations. Carried. Congratulations Lennis !!!
For the position of Director:
Firstly, five Directors are staying on , in compliance with our By-laws: Kim Boatman, Kris Sachdeva, Janice Coupland, Ted Morrison and Dave Andrews are staying on for their last year of their two year terms.
With Lennis assuming the office of position of Vice President for 2018-19 and incoming President for 2019-20, we have openings for one Director for 2018-19. The nominating committee has selected one candidate - Sue MacKinnon for the position of Director and she has agreed to allow her name to stand for election. There were no more nominations from the floor. Devon Biddle moved and Kim Boatman Biddle seconded the motion to close nominations. Carried. Congratulations Sue !!!
We then congratulated everyone for accepting their positions and help lead our Rotary Club in 2018-19 as we join our incoming Rotary International President Barry Rassin and our incoming District 7070 Governor Mary Lou Harrison carry out the good work of Rotary throughout the world.
Past Pres Dave then presented the Strategic Plan.
The Strategic Plan was developed as OUR three-year plan for the Oshawa Parkwood Rotary Club. The goals and actions were identified with input from YOU, the club members at the visioning exercise held on May 30, 2017. The goals /actions were then identified and refined by the strategic planning committee.
A very special thank you to the Strategic Planning Committee: Chair – Ted Morrison, Members: Linda Porritt, Hilda Finnigan, Sue MacKinnon, Devon Biddle and Dave Andrews
Copies of the detailed Plan were presented to the Board earlier this month. Earlier tonight, your club's Board of Directors endorsed the Plan. Tonight, we provided all club members a copy of the executive summary of the Plan. The Directors were given copies of the detailed plan to the Committee Chairs to review and execute, with their committee.
Janice Coupland moved and Kim Boatman seconded the motion to confirm the Board's decision to adopt the Strategic Plan. Carried.
Past Pres Dave then passed the meeting over to Treasurer Devon Biddle who presented the Financial Statement of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood for the year ending June 30, 2017 and the budget for the Rotary year 2017-18. Both documents were received and adopted by the Club member.
Devon Biddle then presided over the meeting of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood Charitable Foundation. Devon noted that the Foundation was set up in 1991 to carry out the business as directed by its member to do good in the community. A motion was made by Lennis Trotter and seconded by Kris Sachdeva to approve the minutes of the 2015-16 meeting of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood Charitable Foundation. Devon then proceeded with the election of officers of the Foundation. The officers consist of the President of the Club, the Vice President of the Club and 6 Directors. Each Director may stay on for two two-year terms. Tonight there were three nominations for the three openings for Director: Robbie Larocque, David Mankiewicz, and Pat Dyck. Dave Andrews moved and Kim Boatman seconded that nominations be closed. Carried. Devon then reviewed the Financial Statement of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood Charitable Foundation for the year ending June 30, 2017. devon noted that from this Foundation, we can make donations to other Charitable corporations. Kim Boatman moved and Larry Hurren seconded the motion to receive and adopt the Financial Statement. Carried.
