LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

Hilda - 2 volunteers needed for the North Oshawa Farmers Market for May 25 and also for June 1. Sharon and Ted volunteered
Hilda announced that the Red Barn will now accept 3 club members and one volunteer (who is not a member) for our four volunteers weekly for Bingo. This was approved by the Red Barn charities.
Hilda announced that if you need a reserved table for the May 9 Reverse Draw, Dinner and Silent Auction to let her know as soon as you can..
APR 18 – is next Bingo Matinee with Ted, Al, Robbie and Lennis. At 11 AM . Please note that nine members currently volunteer for Bingo. It is our second largest fundraiser. Would like to see more volunteers. Many hands make light work. Please see Hilda or Linda if you can volunteer.
APR 20 – Rotary Club of Port Perry “All That Jazz” Spring Gala. Starting at 5:30 PM. Tickets are $175. At Royal Ashburn Golf Club. APR 27 - 2024 ROTARY GREAT LAKES WATARSHED CLEANUP:
Great Lakes Water Cleanup – 9:30 am to 11:30 am at The Second Marsh with Oshawa and Courtice Rotary Clubs. Please let Dave know as soon as possible if you are attending. We need to advise numbers by April 15. Bring your own water (in a reusable bottle) and a picker if you have one. Wear boots. It will be wet walking. 9 Civic Leaders so far will be attending. Park along Col Sam Drive near Second marsh sign (on south side of road). Rotary Great Lakes Watershed T Shirts are available for $15. Please let Dave Andrews know if you wish to buy a T shirt by April 15.
APR 27 – Bingo at the Red Barn – 11 am to 3:30 pm

MAY 3 - The Rotary Club of Bowmanville and Clarington Youth Centres present Clarington's Got Talent Youth Showcase. Come out and enjoy a night supporting our talented youth! At 6:45 to 10:00 pm. Admission: $5 at the door.
All proceeds will be donated to Clarington Youth Centres. Refreshments and Snacks available. Location: Firehouse Youth Centre - 132 Church St. Bowmanville .Hope to see you there!
REMINDER: It is RIBFEST Season. Be sure to volunteer your services and help the neighbouring Rotary Clubs at any one or more of the following Ribfests coming very soon:
Ajax - May 24-26; Bowmanville - June 7-9; Pickering - June 14-16; Whitby-Sunrise - June 12-14; Oshawa Aug. 16-18.
Ted Morrison announced that Silent auction items are needed NOW. Take a picture of your contribution and send it to Dave Andrews for publication/advertising.
Ted Morrison - reminds us to remind your ticket purchasers to bring cash for briefcase, heads or tails game and table tickets.
Dave Andrews - reminded everyone that he has Reverse Draw Tickets for us and that the marketing material he has provided for us should be utilized. Over 160 tickets out so far. Our goal is to sell all 200 tickets. Get your Silent Auction items as soon as you can and send photo and retail price and donor name to Dave A so he can create posters.
REMINDERS:
Hilda Finnigan – Ploughman’s Choice Sale for 2024 is ON NOW. We will be at the North Oshawa Farmers Market starting on May 11 for 4 weeks and also there for 6 weeks in the fall.
Hilda Finnigan – Our Club will be selling Ploughman’s Choice 100% composted livestock manure and Bird Feeders at the Brooklin Fair (June 1 and 2) and at the 2024 Peony Festival ( June 8 and 9) in the Oshawa Botanical Gardens. Volunteers are need to help sell . A volunteer sign-up sheet will be passed around very soon

David Mankiewicz won the Ace of Spades raffle and drew the seven of Diamonds. The pot grows.
HAPPY TWOONIES:
Irina - one of her girls won 2 dance medals and a medal in overall Jazz, in Richmond Hill competitions
Hilda - the apricot tree blossomed this year in our back yard and was full of Monarch butterflies.
Al - had a shutter problem with his house in Florida
Larry- happy he visited Bruce Mackie and sold him a Reverse draw ticket, Bruce was happy with the Poinsetta they got at -Christmas
Larry asked us if we had heard of the following phrases:
-Term Green washing - Pretend going green
-Term Forest bathing - walking in the forest
-Hunger toe - arthritis
Larry noted that Faith United Church is having Scott Woods evening on May 31/2025
Bill Creamer- Granddaughter also danced in Richmond Hill competition and won overall medal
GUEST SPEAKER: LEARNINGN TUESDAYS ON ZOOM: “ROTARY – WHAT’S IN A NAME?”
The Public Image “Learning Tuesdays” was presented LIVE FROM THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF OSHAWA-PARKWOOD on April 16, 2024.
It featured Laura Spear, Rotary Zone 32 , Mary Lou Harrison Zone 28 Public Image Coordinators along with Liz Thiam, Rotary International’s Brand Specialist. Thank you to Bob Wallace, Joe Solway, Iosif Ciosa, and John Burns for assisting.
Laura’s presentation was an eye opener to many on the zoom even though the logo and info has been in existence for over 10 years.
Our three panelists offered comments and recommendations and answered many questions. They talked about our Rotary logo. Some do’s and don’ts (including the correct use of the stand-alone Rotary logo) and some updates from the Rotary International Board of Directors and their encouragement to once and for all, get clubs to use the correct Rotary logo. Why? - To ensure that everyone is sending the same clear, consistent message that is unmistakenly “Rotary”.
The presentation lasted about 25 minutes with about 45 minutes of Q and A. Viewers came from all over the world to be in on the zoom meeting.
The April 16 Learning Tuesdays Public Image Zoom presentation will be posted on to our District 7070 You Tube Channel this week and a story, including a link to Laura’s powerpoint presentation, will be included in the May 2024 District Newsletter.
Vice President Hilda closed the meeting at 8:30 pm.
