LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the Rotary Club of Oshawa’s Ribfest and at our tent at Autofest this past weekend.  A big thank you to Craig Porritt for his help with the Rotary tent and Ploughman’s Choice at the Norh Oshawa Farmer’s market and for his help setting up the Rotary booth at Autofest. Thank you to Keith and Velma Ratchford, and to Ana Rejab and her son Jordell for volunteering at Autofest.

Ploughman’s Choice Sales are going well. We will not be back at the North Oshawa Farmer’s market on Sept 2

There will be a Corn Roast at the North Oshawa Farmers market on Sept 9 from 11 am to 1 pm. Come on out everyone. Proceeds go to Simcoe Hall’s Food Bank.

Thank you to Janice Coupland for setting up and hosting our social evening at Bella Notte Restaurant on Aug 22. Lots of fun with Rotary friends.

Our Sept 6 Board of Directors Meeting will start at 5:30 pm and will be at Linda Porritt’s office  - Centruy 21 Infinity Realty, 650 King St E, Unit 211.

 On Sept 11, we will have tulip bulbs for sale. Same as last year. Boxes will cost $20 each and available from Hilda and Al and will be for sale throughout the fall at the North Oshawa Farmers Market. Please start preselling to your friends today. Proceeds will go to END POLIO NOW.

Rotary Leadership Institute -“In Person” has been cancelled for the fall of 2023.It will be held on ZOOM. Parts One Two and Three will be held on line. Part One: from 6 to 8 pm on Sept 13, 20 and 27. Part Two from 6 to 8 pm on Oct 11, 18 and 25. Part Three from 6 to 8 pm on November 8, 15, and 22. The Spring 2024 RLI will hopefully be held at Centennial College Event Centre,

November 5 - Kids Against Hunger packaging at the Jubilee Pavilion (about 8:30 am to 2 pm) with Oshawa, Whitby, and Whitby-Sunrise Rotary Clubs

November 27 - District Governor John Burns Official Visit to the 2 Rotary Clubs in Oshawa – 11:45 am to 1:30 pm, Wendel Clark’s Restaurant, 67 Simcoe St N, Oshawa, ON L1G 4S3. A luncheon meeting. Joint meeting of the two Rotary Clubs here in Oshawa. Our Nov 28 meeting is cancelled.

PRESENTATION:

Our International Service Director David Penney presented to Steve Rutledge, founder of Adopt A Village LAOS, with a cheque for $1,500 from the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood to provide clean water to villages in LAOS.

ACE OF SPADES:  Rhonda Stewart won the opportunity to draw the Ace of Spades, but instead drew the 5 of Spades. The jackpot grows.

Jan – Thank you to everyone who came out to our social evening at Bella Notte on Aug 22. Great time. 

Robert K – happy to sit beside Jennifer French tonight. The first time she came to our meeting (very shortly after her first election), Robert sat beside her , introduced himself, and asked her what she did for a living.

Al – had a good game of golf today and beat Keith Ratchford and Al gave all of his winnings to our Rotary Club. Way to go Al. So sorry, Keith.

Dave A – Over the next few days, Dave is Happy to be taking the photos as our Rotary Club makes 4 major donations (with our club directors and Pres Linda) to Durham Youth Services, Durham College, Community Care Durham, and to Lakeridge Health. We really are People of Action.

John K – very happy (with a large donation) that the tests he had recently show no cancer.

Dave P – Happy to make that $1,500 donation to Adopt A Village tonight

Ted – on Sept 21, he has a appointment to see a surgeon for a possible shoulder replacement

Hilda – thank you to everyone who helped at Autofest and to Craig for all his help over the last 2 weekends and to Ana and Jordell for coming out to help at Autofest. AND thank you toJjan for a wonderful club social at Bella Notte.

Steve Rutledge – thank you so much for the generous donation to Adopt A Vill age Laos, and he is going out to visit his sister in Vancouver this week ( and he has 17 presentations to make to Rotary Clubs while he is out there).
