 Connie Dixon, and Speakers Dan Cardoza &  Theresa Idle from the Oshawa YMCA

 

BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES:

 

 

Hilda – Informed the club of a Volunteer named Justin Wright. Justin, is seeking volunteer opportunities. So if there are project which need a helping hand, reach out to Justin.

Hilda – updated the club and was pleased to announce that our Annual Dues will remain the same as last year $250.00.

Hilda – noted that the new order of Manure is in with sales being brisk. So far the need for a presence at the Farmers Market does not seem to be impeding sales. Hilda shared that our Club will be selling manure at the  upcoming Oshawa Garden Club’s annual Plant sale, May 24 at Cedar Park.

Hilda – reminded the Club an upcoming celebration of the 60th Anniversary for the Rotary Club of Toronto East (D.G. Virginia’s Club) being held on June 13.

 

Hilda – reminded the Club of the upcoming Peony Festival being held on June 6, 7 & 8. And be ready to volunteer your time to help. Sign up next week.

REMINDER: Ted – updated us that the Maple Syrup Sales Fundraiser only a few bottles left. Thank you all it has been a great success.

Steve Rutledge – shared with the Club the upcoming Ribfest being held on July 1, Steve was proud to announce that this year they will have a headliner join them on Friday evening. The group, Big Wreck, will be performing live. Steve has tickets for the event which are valued at $49.95 with a $5.00 sellers award returned to your Rotary Club for each ticket which you sell.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SGT AT ARMS:  Al Finnigan

ACE OF SPADES:   The draw was won by John B, perspective member.  The five of Clubs was drawn.. The pot grows even bigger!!

HAPPY BUCKS:  Thank you to Al Finnigan for collecting our Happy Bucks.

Al F – is happy John did not pick the Ace tonight.

John – is happy that he had a chance to win.

Ted – is happy that he will be getting a new car as his lease is up. Although he like the electric caddy, he is for a gsa engine again.

Dave A. – is happy to have Dan here this evening from the YMCA

Linda P  – is happy with the result of the Reverse draw!!

Emmy – Is happy that he finally got his renovation permit.

Grant D. – is happy to be with us tonight. He is very happy that his dog sitting duties are finally over!!!

Shashi – is very happy that the visit to the Tank Museum is taking shape. Is is also happy to be in such good company and amongst friends.

Hilda – is happy to see such a full house tonight.

SPEAKER:   

Kim Tam Introduced the speaker this evening. Dan Cardoza and Teresa Idle are here from the YMCA.

Dan, shared news about the Y and some of their new programs as well as many successes that they have with youth in our community. The Y is a place to go and share in sport and socializing with others! The Y has Employment assistance at Community Centres where one can get help with their resume and interview expectations. The Y has child care centres.

The Y is many things now and it is no longer known at the place for Gym or Swim.

The Y is a Registered Charity. Some of the proceeds from money donation go to helping the community through financial assistance for those who may not be able to afford and access to wonderful programs and programming.

The Y is promoting their 5K run which is coming up. And their “Shine On” campaign.

  • Spread the work about the YMCA and their programs.

  • Consider donating to the YMCA

 

Emmy thanked Dan and Teresa for their presentation this evening. He was very thank you for the YMCA’s ability to serve the youth in our community. By providing a safe space for them to connect with.

 

Hilda adjourned the meeting shortly after 8:05 pm.
