Pres Ted: May 29 is Paul Harris Awards Dinner, spouses are invited, sign up as soon as possible.
Pres Ted: received communication from District Governor Neil Phillips that , the May 15 deadline to apply for a Distruict Grant has been extended to June 15. We still have time to apply.
Pres Ted: announced that on June 16, Port Hope Rotary Club is hosting their Annual Surf and Turf Lobster Dinner at Town Park Recreation Centre, 61 McCaul St, Port Hope, Ontario. From 6 to 10 PM. Lobster, Roast Beef, Salad bar, Dessert Buffet and Silent Auction. Call / text 905-376-6057 to book your tickets. Cost is $70.00 per person and it always sells out. If you are interested, get your tickets soon. Ted and Sharron are attending!
Pres Ted: announced the Whitby Rotary Food Truck Frenzy is SATURDAY, MAY 26TH 11:00 am – 11:00 PM
SUNDAY, MAY 27TH, 2017 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM at the Iroquois Park Grounds. over 30 of the best street food vendors from across the GTA and the best of our region’s talented food artisans and performance artists . Taste everything from barbeque to beavertails and pulled pork to poutine. Enjoy decadent comfort food, savoury international dishes and tantalizing sweet treats. There will be something for everyone. And this year we have added something special, a butter tart extravaganza! Free parking will be available immediately beside the event at the Whitby GO Station Parking lot .Here is a link.

REMINDER: Pres Ted – reminded us about the JUNE 19 – RCMP Musical Ride – Two shows - 12:30 and 5:15 pm at Wiindreach Farm, 312 Townline Rd, Ashburn. Tickets . Tickets - $25 per adult, $15 per child . Arrive 1 hour prior to show time to ensure seating and parking . Visit windreachfarm.org for tickets, more information, and directions. Many Rotary Clubs in our district, including ours, has made donations to Windreach Farm, over the years. This is our chance to give back.
REMINDER: Sue MacKinnon: If you volunteer at the Kids' Safety Village in any capacity, a police check is now required. Please fill in attached form and return to Sue MacKinnon. Your SIN is not required.
Devon Biddle: talked about the Home Hospitality Night at Parkwood Estate on June 25. For some people attending the convention, this is the highlight for them, to see people from different countries, and their ethnical showing in their clothing in a home setting. Volunteers are required, even if you are not going to the Convention. Devon has the sign up sheet. Please let Devon know as soon as possible. If we do not have enough hosts from our Rotary, we will open this up to other clubs in the area.
Devon Biddle: also reported on preliminary results of the Reverse Draw and Silent Auction Night. We will be approximately $5,000 ahead of last year. This is due, in part , to the cash in the briefcase and the silent auction items proved to be a great success.
REMINDER: Lennis Trotter will order "Rotary" clothing (hats, shirts and jackets) , but he needs a minimum number - let him know if you want anything.

HAPPY TOONIES
Dan Pantaleo - was happy to complete some gardening this past weekend.
Larry Hurren - went to the cottage and put the docks in and now he has to replenish his beer supply.
Sandy McDowell - has a new grandchild! Her fourth, and all boys! His name is Hudson.
Devon Biddle - has a lot of birthdays in his family this month. All were at the cottage and docks were put in.
Hilda - announced that Al went golfing with his son for his birthday.
Ted - planted 100 flowers on Sunday and his happy he was able to walk and lawn bowl afterwards.
ROTARY MOMENT
Ted Morrison explained the breakdown of our annual dues and talked about The Rotary International Dues. Our $210 per person Rotary Club annual dues are made up of four different dues: District dues are $52; Insurance paid by the District is an additional $20 ; Rotary International Dues this year is $60 US , and the balance is used for our Rotary club expenses.
The Rotary International Dues Increased $4.00 in 2017-18 from $56 US as a result of the 2016 Council On Legislation that Ted attended in Chicago on behalf of District 7070. The Rotary International Dues will be $64 US for the 2018-19 year and $68 US for the 2019-20 Rotary year. . A portion goes to regional and corporate offices, member support including maintenance of website and security, promoting rotary in our community and public relations “end polio now” campaign, all in US funds. Of the $60, $32.08 is used for member support operating in 200 countries and 20 currencies. $14.40 is used for staff, governance, security and privacy . $12.99 MCs used to promote Rotary in the various website, and many social media accounts such as Facebook pages, twitter accounts , and other social media sites and to launch and support the People of Action Campaign. That makes up 98% of the $60 US.
GUEST SPEAKER : CLUB ASSEMBLY – VICE PRESIDENT LINDA PORRITT – UPDATE ON OUR STRATEGIC PLAN
Linda and our Club Board of Directors updated the members on the various activities in our Strategic Plan:
Club Meetings and Fellowship - Janice reported that everyone is happy with meetings and fellowship. She has received some new suggestions. If anyone has any suggestions, please pass them along. The day we went bowling, was a very warm day and we will try again.
Increase in participation at District Events:
7 attending the District Assembly recently and even more will be at the International Convention in June - another opportunity to attend a District functions, a world event! Home hospitality is another event.
Foundation Walk is September 30, 11:30am to 2:30pm at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg. Car pooling may be an option.
October 27 is another District Conference in Wine Country, east.
Bulletin has been streamlined, thank you Dave Andrews.
Membership needs to be increased. 37 is our goal. We have a few leads, some are coming possibly in July.
Many Classification talks have happened and Sonya will be next year with Tim Dwyre and Kris Sachdeva doing a re-classification. Classifications talks help us to know our members.
Youth Service - Rotaractors – active and we were invited to their Meet and Greet event. Ensure new Rotaract board and members know us!
Ted informed that not everyone donates to the Rotary Foundation, in particular polio eradication.
Being a Benefactor is another area that could be increased. Strictly on the honour system.
Paul Harris night next week. Six members are being recognized plus another will receive an award.
Public Image – Terry Johnston gave a compliment to Dave, your club is busy and wondered what the other Rotary Club was doing in Oshawa!
Sandy is great in keeping our club activity announced in the Oshawa Express. Other newspapers also announce our events.
Community Service – We have planted trees and packaged meals for Kids Against Hunger. Also cleaned up along the Oshawa Creek. Youth also participated. On top of writing cheques we are now DOING things. We are People of Action.
Kids Safety Village – recently received a Rotary Foundation District Grant. Re-opens September 22 and if you can volunteer, help is required, let Linda know.
New projects are always welcome. The Ethics - Business Breakfast is a possibility.
Community Outreach – a new club committee has been formed to research and discover new opportunities for service in Oshawa. There are opportunities to be at the Cars on King and Bikes on Bond. Etc. We will also work with the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Association, and other organizations to expand our service and perhaps fundraising opportunities at some of these events.
Sweat Equity is definitely an excellent way to service in third world countries. Check the last three District 7070 Newsletters for all of the details.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE:
Kris gave a quick update on the Rotary Foundation Global Grant application with a Rotary Club in India. Not finalized yet. India is the host club. Application is to specify how the funds are going to improve quality of education, and the quality of life. How is the value of education going to change? The Rotary Foundation needs to ensure that the funds make a real change in the quality of life of those being helped.
