We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. Rotary Foundation Walk: Oct 15 - Ted reminded us to take home the pledge sheets, get your friends and neighbours to sponsor You, collect the funds and bring them to the next Rotary meeting and let’s all raise funds for the Rotary Foundation on October 15 – District 7070 Rotary Foundation Walk is at Milne Dam Conversation Park, 8252 McCowan Road, Markham.

October 16 - Polio Flag Raising at Region – Headquarters with Durham Region Club Presidents

October 17 at 11 am - Polio Flag Raising at Oshawa City Hall – Both Oshawa Clubs are invited.

Oct 17 – Our Regular weekly meeting is cancelled . Please come to the Oct 19 World Polio Day Event at Durham College.

Hilda announced that the Bingo schedules are out and we have volunteers now for all of them . Thank you to everyone.

Hilda also announced that we have tulips for Polio – 20 bulbs for$20. Please buy a box and tell your friends too.

Rotary Leadership Institute -  “In Person” has been cancelled for the fall of 2023. It will be held on ZOOM. Parts One Two and Three will be held on line.  Part Two from 6 to 8 pm on Oct 11, 18 and 25. Part Three from 6 to 8 pm on November 8, 15, and 22. The Spring 2024 RLI will hopefully be held at Centennial College Event Centre, 937 Progress Ave, Scarborough, ON M1G 3T8, in late March or early April.

October 19 - World Polio Day – live FROM THE Rotary Global Classroom at Durham College.  Be sure to register today,  AT https://rotary7070.org/event/world-polio-day-2023-live-from-durham-region/ Only 100 seats available. (Note: Oct 17 regular club meeting cancelled). Please register TODAY. We need to know how many meals to prepare. New cost is $35 with $10 of that going to your next Paul Harris Fellow award.

November 5 - Kids Against Hunger packaging at the Jubilee Pavilion (about 8:30 am to 2 pm) with Oshawa, Whitby, Bowmanville and Whitby-Sunrise Rotary Clubs.

NOV 9 – Oshawa Walk of Fame – Rotary Club of Oshawa at the Jubilee Pavillion at Lakeview Park starting at 5 pm. The mission of the Oshawa Walk of Fame is to preserve, Celebrate, and Showcase Oshawa’s history and heritage of excellence and achievement. The Oshawa Walk of Fame highlights the achievements and success of individuals and groups who have significantly contributed to the life of the City. At our Gala induction dinner, we will celebrate those who have significantly contributed to our City and beyond. November 27 - District Governor John Burns Official Visit to the 2 Rotary Clubs in Oshawa – 11:45 am to 1:30 pm, Wendel Clark’s Restaurant, 67 Simcoe St N, Oshawa, ON L1G 4S3. A luncheon meeting. Joint meeting of the two Rotary Clubs here in Oshawa. Our Nov 28 meeting is cancelled.

COMMUNITY SERVICE UPDATE: DIRECTOR AL FINNIGAN:

Director of Service Al Finnigan gave a summary report of the Community Service donations which totalled approx. $20,000 of a $30,000 budget.  It should be noted that Parkwood Rotary also participates in “Partners in Service” which has an approved budget of $3000 and is monitored by Ted Morrison.  Donations have been approved for Feed the Need in Durham, Hospice Whitby, D-Camp Oshawa Diabetic, Alzheimer’s Durham Region, Art for Aid, Durham College Skilled Trades Centre, Simcoe Hall, Salvation Army, Children’s Aid (Sharon’s Kids), Durham Youth Programs, Lakeridge Health Oshawa

ACE OF SPADES:  Ted Morrison won the opportunity to draw the Ace of Spades, but instead drew the 6 of Clubs. The jackpot grows.

Ted Morrison HAPPY to have garden cleared for winter and brown bags out; great response to Feed The Need and a good golf game

Al Finnigan – good golf game, won $$ from Keith. Editor’s note Keith won that back the next day!!

Craig Porritt – made it through another birthday!! Looking forward to seeing his sister first time in 17 years

Hilda Finnigan – great Nursing Reunion, manure sales going well, great to have joe Solway with us
