Would like to see a good turn-out from our membership.
Check the bulletin for Rotary Leadership Institute. In 2021-22, its Virtual, 3 parts, 6 units each. Available in October and November.
We are meeting at Waverly Street Public School on Saturday, September 18 at 10:00am to clean up the area, our Rotary club’s part , supported by the Mayor's Task Force on Community Safety, Security and Well-Being, to help make cleaner neighbourhoods, parks, trails and green spaces across the city.
Rotary Foundation Walk is September 26. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be two walks ( 9 am to noon OR 1 pm to 4 pm) and 2 lunch times available: in the morning after your walk, or afternoon, before your walk. You are expected to eat and move on!
The Kids Safety Village will not be open for Halloween this year.
World Polio Day is October 21 from 7:00 to 8:30pm. Guests to include Dr. Bob Scott, Mike McGovern ad Valerie Wafer.

Hilda is happy that 29 members came for our social AND the weather was great!
Ted thanked Janice and Hilda for organizing the social; also advised members the Taliban wants Afghanistan to be vaccinated and it should be three years before the world is polio free.
Dave Andrews thanked Janice and Hilda and welcomed Terry Giles to his first meeting.
Robert Kipling talked with Peter Dueck; he has experienced health issues and will be back when possible.

Cynthia Davis, President and CEO Lakeridge Health
A registered nurse by profession, Cynthia has increased her leadership skills and operational experience in Canada and the U.S. Now Completing her PhD, she is focusing her efforts on advancing the transformation and integration of health services to support vulnerable populations such as care of older adults. She completed her nursing degree at Dalhousie University and Master of Science, University of Toronto and currently her PhD, interdisciplinary Studies, at the University of New Brunswick.
Cynthia noted, this was her first time to speak in public, since the pandemic!
Cynthia stressed how important it is to be vaccinated. Testing is also very important!
We are all very tired of this pandemic BUT the hospital is preparing a 4th wave. Hoping it will not be as severe BUT this wave is expected to affect youth.
The first shots were in the hospital, usually in the community. Also noted, shots were in long term care, early and vaccine was always available. There were 4,000 visits to urgent care, virtual clinics.
Lakeridge Health has a Master Plan:
6 person expert panel from 6 professional disciplines formed to advise new hospital and how to advance, considering new growth. This panel has conducted 12,000 surveys and will make submission to the board. Some recommendations will be mandatory and this process (for approval) could take up to 10 years!
320 bed LTC facility will be ready for occupancy as early as March 2022. Dialysis will be on the ground floor. Funded by the provincial government.
Gerry Couglan Health and Wellness Centre will consist of 2 floors for day surgery and will be opening in spring of 2022.
Lakeridge is committed to Patient care. Patients will have access to reports related to their care.
At covid peak, 900 beds were utilized.
