AGAIN, THANK YOU TO: our very own Oshawa-Parkwood Rotarian Eric Guernsey for arranging the Zoom Meeting sharing with Heather McMillan, Executive Director of the Durham Workforce Authority, The Durham Workforce Authority is the acknowledged provider of local workforce information and champion of workforce development initiatives unique to Durham Region. Their Mission is to produce and offer comprehensive Labour Market Information to our stakeholders, to facilitate workforce solutions by engaging community partners and employers and to encourage development and maintenance of a sustainable and dynamic workforce. It was so nice to be able to have a whole hour for our Zoom meeting. We thank you both and hope we can continue in July.
FROM VANCOUVER, PRESIDENT SUE’S OPENING REMARKS & MOMENT OF REFLECTION IN HONOUR OF THE TRAGIC EVENTS THAT HAPPENED IN OSHAWA N THE WEEKEND
President Sue welcomed everyone to our meeting, live from Vancouver where she showed us the beautiful skyline.
She then asked all of us to take a moment of silence as we remember the Trainor family in Oshawa.
ANNOUNCEMENTS

The 2020 Foundation Walk to raise money for the Rotary Foundation - October 18 at the Toronto Beaches boardwalk! District 7070 is planning a smaller in-person and COVID responsible walk with 100 Rotarians to comply with existing Toronto By-laws. Attendees will be mainly Rotary and Rotaract Presidents and District reps. This will be important date as we regularly raise over $100K from this event for the good work of the Foundation. We are also encouraging clubs to hold their own walks within their communities! Let’s start raising our Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood funds for the Rotary Foundation Walk. It will be here in no time.
DUES ARE DUE: You have all received an invoice from our Treasurer, Bill Creamer, for the 2020-21 Rotary Dues. The Annual Dues will be $230.00. At the same time, you will have the option to make a donation to The Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund of $100 and a donation to The Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Funds for $20 (or more if you wish). You will be credited towards your next Paul Harris Fellow Award. Please pay your dues promptly when you get your invoice, by mailing or dropping off your cheque (or cash), payable to the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood, to 96 King Street East, Oshawa L1H 1B6. Thank you everyone. We have already paid our semi annual invoice from Rotary International.
OCTOBER 6, 2020 AT 6 PM: DISTRICT GOVERNOR MARK CHIPMAN’S OFFICIAL VISIT TO 5 ROTARY CLUBS ON ZOOM: District Governor Mark has set up October 6 for his official visit to the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Bowmanville, Courtice and Port Perry. A LINK will be provided soon.
Meals On Wheels – Volunteers Are Still Required -. Please see President Sue so that our Rotary Club can fulfill our commitment to this very important community service. Mondays is our day to volunteer.
BULLETIN EDITORS REQUIRED: Past President Hilda Finnigan is asking everyone in the club to volunteer for a month and write the Club Bulletin. August is looked after. Thank you, Jan and Kris. Tuesday Talks - “Developing Leaders in District 7070” - with The District 7070 Leadership Development Committee - REGISTER TODAY.Our next Tuesday Talk is coming up on October 13 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm.
Dhamay Kanthan, Chair, and her entire District 7070 Leadership Development Committee invite you to "Tuesday Talks" on October 13 from 7 PM to 8 PM, entitled, “Developing Leaders”. Come ready to learn and connect as this team charts its course to create an effective leadership framework in our district that includes engaging a younger generation in Rotary service. Developing good leaders is key to turning Rotary's vision of ‘a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change’ into reality. Leadership is about bringing clarity to where we are headed and then creating an environment where people have the freedom to be their best and can use their gifts to get there. It is always, always all about the people, not just the plan.

Rotary offers "endless opportunities" and this may be one of them for you!
Community Bottle and Food Drive, September 26, 2020:. Are you ready for some fun and community engagement? Join clubs across the District as we hold a Community Bottle and Food Drive on Saturday September 26. This will be an opportunity to promote the great work and “endless opportunities” of Rotary from Etobicoke to Picton and Belleville and north to Alliston and Newmarket. Each club will be responsible for the details and logistics of their event; the District will help promote on social media. Don’t forget to tag @rotary7070 and #rotary7070 on your own Club social media posts. Attached is a template to use to market the event – there are spaces on the template to add your club name, event date and location drop-offs. Let’s make this happen!!!!
OUR REGULAR WEEKLY MEETINGS RETURN TO THE OSHAWA GOLF CLUB SOON: WE ARE LOOKING AT A START BACK DATE OF OCTOBER 13, 2020:
Some changes are coming due to COVID-19 restrictions
Members will need to inform David Andrews if they are not coming to a meeting just as before (by the Sunday evening prior to the Tuesday meeting). Note: We will need 100% of the members on board with this.
A combination of in person plus zoom does not look promising unless we can get a minimum of 20 members attending each meeting, in person at the Golf Club.
There will be an Oshawa Golf Club Greeter at the front door
Masks are required until seated at a table
Maximum four at a table
Designated washrooms (if we meet upstairs, we use the upstairs washrooms)
Served meals – no buffet
Maximum 50 per room
Golf Club will make a copy of our Weekly attendance sheet for tracking purposes
BINGO AT THE RED BARN RETURNS:
Our second day back is Sept 26 at 12:30 PM. Need to be there by 11 AM. We need 3 people only at the Bingos at the present time: ONE Banker. ONE front desk Sales Person and ONE U Pick Em Sales Person. Please let Sandy know if YOU are available.. We need to be there by 11 AM. Things are different under COVID-19. With only 2 bingo sessions a day, we may only get one bingo per month. Stay tuned. Sandy is looking for 3 ONLY volunteers for Sept 26. (Hilda and Al Finnigan have volunteered) Please let Sandy know if you can volunteer, as soon as you can.
Here is a note from the Red Barn:
As part of stage 3, upon opening, we will only be permitted 50 customers per session. This restriction, although keeps everyone safer, makes it very difficult to operate our regular bingo schedule. Please be patient with us in this introductory phase as we anticipate opening with 2 events per day (12:30 pm and 6:45 pm) with new programs that must be geared towards smaller crowds due to the temporary capacity restrictions. We have applied for a special request to increase the number of patrons permitted in the hall and we shall give you an update as soon as we have one. Please know that we are working very hard towards opening and offering a product that is acceptable to you until things get back to normal.
PLEASE NOTE: Doors will be opened at 11:30 am for our 12:30 pm session and 5:45 pm for the 6:45 pm session.
The Snack Bar will be closed until further notice but we have installed Vending Machines with Cold and Hot Beverages and Snacks for your convenience.
The health and wellness of our customers, charities, and staff are paramount. Upon arrival, customers will be greeted by an attendant at the front entrance to ensure social distancing is adhered to. Please note that if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath; or if you have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days; or if someone you are in close contact with tested positive for Covid 19; or if you have been told to self-isolate by a medical professional or Public Health, we apologize but you will not be permitted to enter the premises.
Other Precautions in effect:
Promoting Social Distancing by managing traffic flow throughout our hall.
Customers, Staff and Charity Volunteers are asked to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet whenever possible.
Customers will be seated 6 feet from each other.
Sneeze Guards are placed at all selling stations.
Sanitizing Stations have been implemented throughout the hall. Please use the provided hand sanitizer when entering the building and we encourage you to clean hands frequently with soap and warm water or hand sanitizer.
Regular cleaning/disinfecting of all surface areas. Table tops and chair frames will be thoroughly cleaned/disinfected in between bingo sessions.
All staff and charity volunteers are required to wear masks or face coverings.
Customers are required wear masks or face coverings at all times while in the hall. If you do not have your own mask one will be provided for you.
Restroom have enhanced automatic capabilities.

KIDS SAFETY VILLAGE UPDATE: Past President Lennis Trotter: Next meeting on Sept 28 at 5 PM at the Kids Safety Village.
WORLD POLIO DAY 2020 IN DURHAM REGION: OCT 22 FROM 7 TO 8:30 PM VIA LIVESTREAM:
A joint meeting of the 10 Durham Region Rotary Clubs live from the new Global Classroom in the new Centre for Collaborative Education at Durham College where we will celebrate World Polio Day with leaders from around the world. This year, it is online.
Spouses, guests and prospective members and all clubs in District 7070 and all over the world will be watching. Proclamations presentations and flag raisings from the 8 City and Region to our 10 clubs in Durham Region will also be shown by video. Dr. Bob Scott, immediate past chair of Rotary’s PolioPlus Committee (worldwide) will be our keynote speaker , updating everyone on Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio from this world. He will be talking LIVE with Ian Riseley, Past President Rotary International) and he may connect with PolioPlus Volunteers from around the world. We will also see the Rotary International broadcast and we will livestream that too to everyone in the world. All clubs in the District are invited to watch the event.
