GUEST SPEAKER : Dr Colin Carrie, Member of Parliament for the Federal Riding of Oshawa

Colin needs very little introduction to The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood. We have had the pleasure of hearing Colin speak to our Rotary Club on several occasions. Over the years, Colin has also been a big contributor, to our annual Reverse Draw, Dinner, and Silent Auction Night. He buys a ticket every year, when asked and even contributes annually to our door prizes for our big event. We thank you every year for your generous assistance to The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood, each and every year. And now we can proudly call him fellow Rotary Club member Colin Carrie.
Tonight is not the time for a craft talk / classification talk. He does that every year. Tonight , he is part of our civic leaders presentations to our Rotary Club. Tonight, he is going to update our club members, as our Member of Parliament for the Oshawa Riding, and hear what is happening in Ottawa.
Colin is the proud son of a career Naval officer. He is a graduate of Oshawa’s RS McLaughlin CVI. Colin earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College as a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1989. He returned to Oshawa where he established a practice and began a family. Colin and his wife Elizabeth have three children.
Colin has always been deeply involved in his community of Oshawa, and in the rest of our country too. Before entering politics, Colin had one of the leading chiropractic and wellness clinics, in the City.
Colin was first elected to represent Oshawa in June 2004, and was re-elected in January 2006, again in October 2008, once again in May 2011, and again in October 2015. Colin has had the privilege of serving as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministers of Industry, Health and Environment, during his time in Parliament.
Currently, Colin serves as the Opposition Shadow Cabinet as Secretary for Canada/US Relations and has remained a tireless supporter of the manufacturing industry in that role.
During his speech, Colin noted that he was very proud to be a Rotary member. Sad to see GM loss in Oshawa. We need to become more competitive cost wise, especially electricity wise. and the Carbon Tax hurts also. Canada doing well but deficits a growing concern. Colin worries about young persons being able to purchase a home. Colin was first elected in June of 2004. The talk was very general and not political.
