GUEST SPEAKER
Jason King, the new CEO for the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce was introduced by Past-President David Andrews.
Jason came into the role to modernize the organization. The Mission, Values, and Strategic Focus have been updated.
Chamber Mission: Advocate for businesses; Connect & promote; Inform & bring awareness.
Chamber Values: Respect; Integrity; Innovation; Inclusivity; Development; Collaborations
Current Strategic Focus: The What - Reimagine & Rework; The How - Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Creates Opportunity & Delivers Value
Jason is looking for what is great about the organization and trying to see where that fits in the service of members and the community. He and his team have risen to the challenge of adapting digital technology and points of interface. They are creating Strategic Partnerships, seeking to get in sync with the Economic Development Departments, existing networks and downtown business group.
There is a new energy and a new outlook, but they need to also be consistent. There are measurements defined for whether they are delivering on their mission.
Questions
John Kellam - How is the Chamber dealing with membership retention challenges?
Jason: They are receiving feedback and are working on doing a better job of listening to and understanding what members need.
David Penney - With Covid rules being relaxed and the citation changing, what will the Chamber be doing in the next 60 days?
Jason: They are trying to stay nimble. In-person events are being scheduled, and everything has a backup plan.
Past-President Linda Porritt thanked Jason with a certificate of our appreciation.
Meeting adjourned Approx 7:50 pm
