GUEST SPEAKER:

Melissa Brabant from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. She has been with MTO for 22 years (since 1999). She has an IT degree from Ryerson. Melissa is with the Road/User Safety Division.

She gave a very informative presentation about Winter Driving. Here are a few of the points she made:

-Change to snow tires when the temperature drops to 7 degrees Celsius

-Snow tires perform better than All Season tires. Melissa had a video where cars tested braking and cornering with both kinds of tire, and snow tires clearly won.

-Drive according to conditions. If you drive the speed limit under extreme winter conditions, you could get a ticket if an officer felt it was too fast for the road condition.

-Always have an Annual Winter Maintenance Inspection

-Switch to Winter windshield wiper blades!

-Make sure especially that your heater and defroster are working

-Prepare for winter – make sure that you have a snowbrush and scraper, are dressed for the weather, and have a Winter Survival Kit in your car.
