Jackie grew up in the farming community of Harriston, Ontario (about 1,800 population). Her brother is an electrician. Her parents have been married for 40 years.

Jackie’s love is art and design( in homes and floor plans). Having pursued architecture, her love is interior design and she graduated in Interior Design from Georgian College before moving to Ottawa to work in the field with design build manufacturers of kitchen and bathroom  and cabinetry.

Jackie became involved with the NKBA (National Kitchen and bath Association), and served on the Board of Directors and has helped formulate policy in the association.

She met her husband Andrew, in Ottawa, and they moved to Whitby in 2012 (where Andrew grew up). Andrew works in Toronto.

They are now in Oshawa. Jackie stayed with companies in Oshawa but it was then time to branch out with her own company, Jackie Schagen Design.

She offers truly custom solutions to meet your individual needs. She believes in working with and designing for the client. Every choice the client makes, is their choice. The design is the client’s design, not Jackie’s.

She enjoys the space planning. “It has to work”. Every design has a flow and function.

Jackie does in home consultation, project drawings, materials and finishes, and project management – a truly turn-key operation.

Be sure to look at her website for some of the designs she has created for customers.

Jackie is a facilitator between the customer and the contractor. She will work with your contractor or she has 6 contractors that she can choose to meet your needs.

She ensures that he designs are not trendy. She wants your project to last for a long time.

“Jackie Schagen Design offers interior design services that go beyond the visuals and focus on the every day function of your space. As space planning specialists, we design kitchens and bathrooms for everyday living. Our approach to consulting is a truly custom one. The design process is tailored to your needs so that you can be sure that we'll find the perfect solution for you. Because you're unique, and so is your home.”

Here is a quote from her website: “Over the last 15 years, I’ve worked with homeowners to design spaces that perfectly suit their needs. This is my goal as a space planning specialist – to design functional solutions for your home renovation. I’m passionate about communities and am an active member of Rotary, an organization that aims to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. I enjoy volunteering on a local and global scale. I’m inspired by travel – exploring new cities, cultures, and cuisines. I’m intrigued by the way people live in different cities around the world, and how some of those practices can be applied to our daily lives. Interior design and space planning is a unique challenge – a puzzle, if you will. It involves working with a finite amount of space and finding that one layout where everything fits. That’s the best part. Let’s make all of the puzzle pieces fit! “

Well said, Jackie.

This was an excellent craft talk. We are all proud to have her in our Rotary Club.

Jackie was thanked by President Lennis Trotter.
