ROTARY MOMENT

Ted Morrison provided a moment on one of Rotary Foundation's 6 areas of focus: Water and Sanitation. . Although the figures have improved over the last 15 years by 50%, people still do not have access to clean water and girls continue to carry clean water and that prevents education.

Billions of people continue to use contaminated water and 1M people could be saved each year if they washed their hands with clean water, after using the washroom.

Global grants for water and sanitation amounts to 74M….can we do more?

GUEST SPEAKER :

Bob Stewart gave his craft talk. He has been a Rotarian for 35 years. Many years ago, someone was to give their craft talk and was ill, so Bob filled in with some tax tips, but only now is giving his craft talk.

Bob was born in Oshawa; his father originally for the maritimes and his mother from the west. Their love of golf brought them together. Bob grew up in the Taunton/Harmony area, attended Holy Cross School and Paul Dwyer High School. After a stint where a nun caught Bob admiring girls in gym class, MCVI was the school of choice.

Bob loved sports and decided to repeat grade 12 so he could gold in the summer instead of going to summer school. Ditto for grade 13, he loved to play football, and organized hockey games.

Off to University of Guelph, where bridge became a passion. After university Bob worked at the Whitby Jail where he bulked up with some inmates.

One job was at State Farm Insurance. While having lunch with a few at McDonald’s, one girl had special sauce on her face and Bob wasn’t too interested in that girl, so how did he end up marrying her? Who knows but we are glad you did marry Rhonda!

Other positions at a few investment company’s followed and now Nesbitt Burns is home for Bob where he manages approximately 160 families.

Myles Fisher thanked Bob for his very entertaining speech.
