GUEST SPEAKER: DAN CARTER – MAYOR OF OSHAWA – HIS ANNUAL ADDRESS
Introduced by Dave Andrews, Mayor Dan Carter gave a very positive, upbeat and optimistic speech about what is happening now in Oshawa.
Some points he included were:
There is going to be a major investment in police in the very near future.
We now have 35,000 post-secondary students in the city. The international students come from 140 countries.
OPG Head Office moved into the old GM building and created 2,000 jobs. They are developing modular nuclear facilities that will bring even more jobs in the near future.

Trent University has just started a logistics course that will train many.
He commented on the "Special Powers" that he has received from the Province its mainly to build more houses faster. He says there are 8,000 houses ready to go. He says the city's budget is no longer the Council’s budget but rather it is now called the Mayor's budget (By provincial law). He also commented on Bill 23 and how it has punished municipalities he feels they will lose over $75 million over the next five years.
He also said the opioid crisis is the worst health epidemic that Canada has ever experienced
