Catch the Ace – not doing so well, need to encourage ticket buyers.  Larry Hurren won the weekly Catch the ace draw.

Meeting at the Golf Club on October 19 is also cancelled

World Polio Day on October 21 LIVE from the Rotrary Global Classroom at Durham College – a virtual event from 7-8:15 pm – co-hosted by Oshawa and Oshawa Parkwood –  a premier event for District 7070 – watch for the link to register for this event

Kids Against Hunger – Ted Morrison announced that we will be able to have this event November 6. Ted asked for volunteers and will contact the Jubilee and other clubs

October 22 -  Is the presentation of our donation to Waverly School for their fitness equipment. Be  there at 12.00 noon. Everyone welcome.

Hilda announced that starting October 26 . 3 dinner choices will be chicken Caesar salad, club  sandwich and steak sandwich.

David Penney had a great cruise and was happy that Sue did a good job housekeeping while he was away

Linda happy we are doing kids for hunger again

Bob Stewart played golf with an 80 and a 90 year old golfer, moved up to hybrid teas with them and shot a par round.

Ted happy Kids for hunger is successfully  coming together

Dave Andrews was happy that his friend Reg Malachowski was there.

 Reg was happy to be back for a visit.

 

SpeakerDavid Andrews introduced Chief Todd Rollaur

 

Todd presented an informative slide presentation:

  • There are 1200 members on the police force at present

  • They had the second public interaction meeting this year

  • Inducting 29 new officers this month

  • Had a successful youth in policing program with summer students

  • Will have 200 officers equipped with body cameras by the end of the month

  • Had a large increase in unwarranted vaccine calls, they have no authority to arrest

  • The Police department are developing a vaccine strategy

  • There are approximately 5 apprehensions per day in the down town area

  • Gun crime-120 guns seized and 91 charges laid to date

  • There was a 20 percent increase in mental health calls in 2021 over 2020

  • With Provincial funding police (night)  foot patrols where increased down town

  • Disorderly disturbances were up 22% this year

  • Project ECO funded by the Province, Drug enforcement searched 28

and arrested 44

  • Worked with 148 businesses downtown- handed out information sheets

Phase 1 put in 1200 hours and arrested 88

Phase 2 added 4 more officers arrested 115

 

 

Past President Allan Finnigan thanked Todd, Glen and Chris for their Durham Police administration  update.

                 Region Rotary Clubs and co-hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa and Oshawa-Parkwood,  in the Rotary

                 Global Classroom in the new Centre for Collaborative Education at Durham College where we will celebrate

                 World Polio Day with leaders  from around the world. This is one of District 7070’s premier events in the Rotary
