GUEST SPEAKERS: BOB WALLACE – ROTARY DISTRICT 7070 ROTARY FOUNDATION CHAIR
Past District Governor Ted Morrison introduced our guest speaker – Bob Wallace from the Port Hope Rotary Club. Bob’s presentation described how the Rotary Foundation can fund the works we do as Rotarians.
Grant monies come in return for the monies which we donate to the Rotary Foundation. Global Grants fund large international projects which have a value of more than $30,000.00 USD. Whereas, District Grants fund smaller scale project with a cap at $9,000.00.
Polio Plus is a separate fund which any donations made there stay there in order so that Rotary may keep it’s promise to the Children of the World to eradicate Polio from the world. A very powerful and insightful video was shown which highlight the struggles and successes of Paul Alexander who has been impacted by Polio and must spend a significant amount of his days in an Iron Lung, for those not in attendance do Google this Video it is very insightful as to why we need to see this disease stricken from this world. Bob also explained the Endowment Fund which can form part of your own Legacy, leave a gift to Rotary, the fund principal remains and only the interest earned is shared. Rotary has a goal for the Endowment Fund of $2.025 Billion before the 2025 Convention.
Bob then spoke of the Disaster Grants which have helped recently in the Ukraine, with the wildfires in western Canada and Hawaii.
Lastly, Bob described a newer program of Rotary Programs of Scale. Rotary selects one project annually and scales that program up to serve a greater group of people with a commitment of $2 million. (Polio Plus was used as an example for a Rotary program which started small to eradicate Polio in the Philippines and was then scaled up to seek to eradicate Polio worldwide.
Al Finnigan thanked Bob Wallace for his presentation on how our donation dollars however small they may be to us grow to provide great impact in our district and around the world.

It brings together award winning musicians from across the Region in support of Feed the Need in Durham, which collects and distributes food to over 65 emergency food providers across Durham, including food banks, shelters, meal and snack programs and other social service agencies. Feed the Need in Durham provides over 1.5M meals to Durham residents annually
